Unhappy Rear-end Question

alright guys i hope you could help me with this... I was changin my rear breaks and it happend that my friend moved my car and it fell cause it was only on a jack and since then wen i drive it i get a loud *** snapping noice wen i let go of the clutch too fast or bring it to high rpm and let go of gas... so i lifted my car up and check the bolts and screws and non of them are loose... then i under the car and checked my driveshaft screws and all of the where tight but as i tired to make it tighter the whole drive shaftmoved up and down... then i checked the round thing where the halfshafts connect and i could move the whole up and down with one hand... so im think that it is loose and should be tighter would that be the reason? And im scared to drive the car thinkin that some thing is gonna break off... Please Help Me Out Guys

Get the car up in the air, always use jack stands, and check out rear suspension. The differential is bolted to the frame on both sides. There is a front mount also, but if that breaks you shouldn't be able to move the differential up and down easily by one hand.

you are using jackstands when you get under the car to check, right?

dude never trust your life or your car to a piece of **** hydraulic jack. they go all the time. i've gone through two jacks in a little more then a year and a half.

jackstands are cheap as hell too. do not go under the car unless you have stands supporting the car.

good luck with your problem... try driving around and having someone stand outside the car and try to pinpoint the noise.

When the car fell off the jack did the jack hit the axle as the car fell? Just a shot in the dark, I had a whole flange and stub axle break off. Driver realised he had no brakes going into a turn at Sebring, pu it in second gear to slow down! Or is the whole diff flopping around? turbonut has you on the right track, there are only three points to check in that case.

In the enclosed pic, where the arrow is, check the diff mount and the bracket that is welded to subframe. I have seen both of them broken on different cars and the noise is similiar to what you describe.

yep sounds to me like the front diff mount
since you need to replace it buy one from scalliwag.com and never have it break again
