Really low idle.

My 87 NA idles really low on start up (800-900rpm), the only way I can really keep it running is to rev it everytime I start her up. How might I go about correcting this?

I apologize for my noobishness, but I've got to start somewhere.

Any help would be much appreciated.

i had the same problem i found it to be a vacumn leak i fixed it by reconnecting a vacumn line that was left unconnected by someone during the engine swap

i'd look thru the bay to try and find a line that isnt connected

your car looks good i like the yellow and dark windows

also when you find the line spray some starter fluid around it to see if the pitch changes

My na idles at 200-250 rpm. I thought they idled high if there was a vac leak, and I adjusted the tps, and the idle screw has zero effect on idle speed. At least it never stalls :-D

It should idle at ~750rpms.

When I get done with my work this winter I am going to have it set to idle at ~1,000rpms.

Ya, stock idle is 750rpm like Mason said. I had trouble because it was idling too high at 1000rpms.

Na, the tach works fine, the accelerated warm up still works, so it idles at 1500 for a few minutes. But when it warms up, the tach needle stays barely above the lowest line... oh well. I thought vac leaks only allowed high idle, so it can't be that? But it doesn't stall, that's the main thing...later

dood, whatever on the 200rpm idle. When mine would dip below 500 all of my idiot lights would come on because they thought the car was gonna die.

And on the original poster....sounds like your car is idling perfectly. Don't fix what's not broken.

I don't know, the lights dim a little when I press the brake though. Sorry to threadjack. I'll take a pic and start a new thread tonight. I really don't know how to fix it, but the tps is adjusted properly, and the idle adjust does nothing. Oh, and the idle speed for the original poster sounds dead on. I was under the impression that the factory idle speed was 750 rpm's...later

I know that now. I posted another thread w/a pic, and everyone pointed that out to me. I didn't realize that the second large tick mark was a 500 instead of 0...later
