real quick alternator question

Will an alternator from an 86 gxl work on my 87 TII? I'm not too sure and didn't have time to look around checking into it too much, so I was hoping someone would know. I need to get an alternator, so if the 86 doesn't work, is anyone selling one for an 87 TII?

The 86 alternator will bolt right in, but I think it's rated at 10 amps less than the TII alternator...not a big deal if you don't have a big stereo, etc.

So the TII alternator is stronger than the NA? Hmm..I was wondering that, might be a better fit than the 3rd gen. I heard the 3rd gen u have to cut some wires. Would you have to cut anything for the TII to fit in the NA?

I am sure it will work fine, but why the downgrade? I always go with an upgrade no matter what it is your replacing. Try a 3rd gen one or at least get the TII one. Is money the problem? They have places where they rebuild alternators, take it there should only be like $40 or so.

basically I'm at school at the mazda garage here fucked my alternator and tried pinning it on me. I told the guy that paying them $300 to replace it was ridiculous, and that I'd found an alternator for as low as $35. so he said to take him proof that I bought an alternator and he'd give me the check for $35. I've got no money to buy a good alternator and not alot of time, because I'm taking the car home on the 21st and it's gotta be running by then. So if you have a spare TII or 3rd gen alternator laying around that you can sell me for under $50, it's awesome, but if not, I've got no choice but to go with the only one I can find.

Go to your local parts store and buy the right alternator for $100 and have the garage reimburse you.
