Still working on the rattling problem. I will wait for a perfect product with a 1million mile warantee. Quality>product that costs more and annoys you.

 

Good timing. I bought an 88 GTU yesterday and i love it! But a shifter would be a nice upgrade to start with...

I bought a mazdaspeed short shifter a couple days ago, should show up today. How bad is the rattling?

 

depends on how bad your bushings and linkages are

 

And how well balanced your motor happens to be.

 

I've been waiting for this shifter to get released too. But from what I have heard from Aaron it's taking a while to get it perfect. I think that's it's a great thing that someone is putting so much work into something like this for the FC community.

 

Hmmm...the car only has 60k miles on it.

 

Sometimes the short shifters just rattle. That's why Aaron's design is supposed to be so superior. I'm not the person to be giving too many details though since it's not my project. Hopefully Aaron will chime in here when he gets a chance.

What's the scoop? I need a new shifter and bushings. I'll take one with stock s4 threads on it... when / if it's done...

Sorry everyone, we're still working on it. It has taken longer then I thought because we ended up dumping my original design and going in a completely different direction. The result is a more positive and mechanical shift with no slop at all. Unfortunatly this direction made any possible rattle problems much more likely and it has been a real bitch trying to solve it. At this point I think we have a solution for all but the most worn transmission. I'll be working on the shifter tomorrow if there's time...

Probably should have kept my mouth shut until they were actually finished, but I think it will be soon...

rattles can also be caused by sloppy fitting adapter sleeves, which can be soliconed in place to prevent rattling.

 

Any update on this? I'm getting ready to purchase the Mazdatrix ones but would much rather get this one since even my stock shifter rattles like a ************.

 

seriously...................my fiancee wants a short throw when we replace her clutch and shiftrer bushings............what's the price?

I doubt this thing will ever be done, they've been working on it forever. I'd just go with a mazda trix one. That's what I have and I don't have any rattles. I think it makes a little rattle when I'm at the higher rpm's but it's not very loud at all, can't really hear it over the rest of the noise my car makes.

 

I thought the general consensus was that the 40-50-dollar ones from eBay made for the Miata were the best bang for your buck?

 

I'm still working on the shifter. It's been on the back burner since I've been trying to get my own car done. It will be done eventually. Trying to get rid of the last few little rattles...The basic fact is that no matter what I do, some cars will ALWAYS rattle...
