RB header to Bonez Superflo System?
I have a question for you guys. Currently on my car I have the Bonez "2.5 Superflo System" from RX-7.com. Basically it is a one piece unit consisting of a pipe that replaces the two pre-cats, a pre-silencer, and a high flow cat to replace the main cat. The system bolts perfectly to the exhaust manifold, using the stock size gasket.
My question is can I buy a Racing Beat header to replace just the manifold and that will bolt to my Bonez system? I've heard there is a short header that can be used for just such an install, but I wasn't sure. I would have checked the Racing Beat website but it does not contain very much info at all.
Thanks,
Isaac

I heard that Racing Beat makes a short header and a long header. The short replaces just the manifold while the long version replaces the manifold and two pre-cats. I can't remember where I heard that. Anyone else ever remember hearing that?
Thanks

The header will not bolt up to the bonez superflo. The header is much longer than the stock manifold. RB makes 2 headers, the streetable header (collected) and the road race header (dual outlet) Both are longer than the stock manifold. YOu will need to cut the bonez superflow, and weld a flange on it. You wont even have enough room to fit the silencer and the cat, youll have to pick one..

Hmmm... Has anyone made their own exhaust headers? (or had a shop make them?) I think mazdatrix sells flange plates, so it would be a matter of bending some tubing and joining it (if you're not going for a dual setup).
Also, does anyone know if there would be any power to be gained by replacing the stock header with one that wasn't any longer?

Not as much as would be worth the effort.. One of the main things that gains HP with A header is the increased primary length. Making a header that was the same length as the stock manifold would probably yield some gains, due to the very poor flow characteristics of the stock manifold (designed to minimize noise mostly..) but nothing that would be worth all the hassle.

I have the Bonez Superflo downpipe/cat combo, but I believe that Rotary Performance sells the shorter Bonez cat only. This may work with the RB header with an adapter/spacer. You'll get most of the benefits of the header and still have the emissions compliance of the Bonez cat.
But this would mean more money. But you could sell the Superflo.

I just installed the Mindtrain header on my car with the Bonez Superflo cat set up. I only had to cut about 8 inches off the pipe and weld on a new flange. It didn't come close to the pre Sci or cat. It sounds great and once I figure out why my 5/6 ports aren't working again, I'm sure it will be a big help on preformance.

Mike, do you have an S4? Reducing the backpressure upstream of where the pressure tap is shouldn't have an effect on the backpressure at the pressure tap. So installing the headers theoretically shouldn't cause your 5/6 ports not to open.
Anyway, let us know what it is when you figure it out!
Cheers!

My car is an S5. I found a bad solenoid and have already replaced it. When the rain decides to let up I’ll go out and see if it’s fixed. My biggest problem was the damn extra brace (dog as slow vert) that had to be modified for the header to clear. The Mindtrain seem to be a very solid piece and keeping the pre silencer and high flow cat really gives the car a nice sound.

Nah. Not going to sell it. And I took another look at it yesterday. I guess it was the double cat, not the Superflo.
I assume the double cat has about the same length of tube before the first cat as the Superflo has before the presilencer...
Also, does anyone know of a Mindtrain website? Google came up with very little, mostly mod lists.
