raping an 86 today... what do i need?
ok my parents and the city are being *******.. i have until like 1 pm to get this damn 86 torn apart and in my garage before i get it towed off or before my mom shoots her "mechanically inclined daughter" (she hates that! at least im not a stripper though... geez she should pick which ever she likes best and ill do it).. back to the point...
i know i need the nose, ***, lights, tranny, clutch/ flywheel, interior stuff, and hatch lock mechinism (sp)
im gonna try to get my 90 put back together and do the auto to manual swap.. however if i put an s4 motor into an s5 i have to change the computer too right? so i dont wanna do that so is there anything else i could pull and use with out having to changing the computer???
oh and im pulling the motor bc i want to tear it apart and learn more about it.

Is it blown? (the motor). I would go and find a core from a salvage yard or possible one donated from the forum and tear into that. No need to tear apart a perfectly good motor if nothing is wrong with it. And I do believe yoru right about the computers as the they run different impedence on the injectors for one. Oh yeah, don't forget about the flywheel and front counterweight also.

Now you got me thinking. Is there a big difference from the s4 block to the s5 block besides hp? I'm wondering if you could swap intake and injectors also to get around swapping the computer as the s5 intake is probably better flowing than the s4 intake. The only real question is will the s5 intake port match the s4 motor. Hmmmm........

heh.. what CAN'T come off?
Take all the following:
Fenders, hood, doors, rear hatch, front/rear bumper cover (and supports), engine and all things bolted to the engine, tranny, shifter, seats, dash (yes the dash), computer(s), pedal assembly with brake booster/cylinder and clutch assembly, ignitors/coils, charcoal canister, radiator, A/C.. well.. leave that crap behind, rear storage areas, steering wheel, all lights, any bodywork that comes off, fuse panels, wiring harness, any extra gauges, sensors, etc..
Leave the carpet (crap).. then send it off to a junkyard and pray they put it under a tree so it doesn't get TOO rained on.. then go back when you got some $$ and buy it, take it to a place that does media blasting (like sandblasting) and blast the entire bare frame, coat it with a little protective junk, and start turning it into a SCCA Production class race car.

take the mechanical omp and front cover off the S4 and put it on the S5... The blocks are identical in every way except the front covers. The rotating assembly is different from the compression and the weights of the rotors and subsequent counter weights.

This is what I'm using. One end bolts to the stud from the manual tranny and the other bolts to the auto cross member.
I believe the s4 tranny will work as long as you use a flywheel from a s5. (but don't quote me ) A more expensive option is to get a lightweight flywheel and use the counterweight from the auto.

[bnd] here did u find that ????? i made my own crossmember, but i like the way that one looks got a link?

btw,garlandrx7 it isn't that hard (not sure what diff would be for swaping with and s4 (i think u need the s4 flywheel and clutch componets to do it)not sure though) the hardest part for me was the pedals, it only costed me a little over $800 thats including other parts not related to the swap that i need

It's not quite a perfect fit though. It's actually 3/4 of an inch too short. I had to remove the bushings from one of the ends to get it to fit.
Once you get the steering coloumn out of the way, the pedals are easy. At least it was for a small guy like me. The final total of my swap was $1000 CDN. Which is around $650 USD. But I ended up with a transmission with worn out bearings

Kevin Landers sells the braket you need to do a auto to manul swap. Don't let peole talk you out of doing anything to your car, because it's your car and if you like to work on it what's the big deal? I just did a NA/t2 conversion and it's NOT VERY HARD, I am about to start on a auto/manual swap and that doesn't sound all that hard either.
