raising the oil pressure

oil control valve is located by front cover that has a spring and a piston. will the pressure go up(resulting in better protection for all bearings at high rpm.) if i stretch this spring 1/2"? to get 50 psi at idle and 100 at high rev. will this work?
i have mech. guage. my pressure is about 65psi at high rpm and 15 at idle.
my motor is out so i have easy acces.

15 at idle is a little low but nothing to be alarmed about.

now my question is are you planning on doing this to a turboed engine or is this an n/a?

the oil control valve in the front cover is a dump valve, it doesn't regulate oil pressure to the internals just as a precaution for the whole system. the main pressure regulator is on the rear iron facing forward. you can stretch the spring, install a stronger spring or peen the end of the regulator in to put more tension on the spring.

If you're not running a Mazda oil filter try that also. On both of my cars they read higher using the Mazda one than anything else.

thanx karack, so the regulator on rear housing can be modified? my car is 86 with 91 motor n/a. higher pressure wont hurt, i think it will add longer bearing life and added realibility.
my mechanic 35 years of working on rotaty, said that he never heared that regulator could be modified on 2nd gen, he said only old school rotaries can be.

will that pressure also go to rotor oil rings?

again, a little low but nothing to be alarmed about. have you double checked it vs a mechanical gauge?

the oil control rings should see near that same pressure which is why they tend to commonly fail in older engines.

mine r not brand new, looked to me like they were on good condition, the 91 motor had absolutely no ruber on inner rings, so i used 86 rings from my 86 donor motor.

so you reused the o-rings in the oil control rings? big mistake.

if you're lucky it won't smoke a ton in the lower RPM range but likely it will smoke like a train in the upper RPM range.

If you can wait a few weeks, I'm going to post a big writeup on how to shim the oil pressure regulator on my website...
