radio question
well i installed a sony xplod 52w x 4 stereo in the 7. well it works but i can only put the volume so loud then itll cut off and itll turn back on 4 seconds later.. and it will keep on doing that unless i turn the volume down ...well does anyone know what could be causing this prob...... im also having a bettery voltage prob... its not keeping a 12volt+ charge.... but the lowest itll go will be 10volts.
thanks ahead of time

I don't know "car audio" but I know PA system audio. It sounds like you might be overdriving your system. The higher volume overwhelms your audio channels and it sort of shuts down like a circuit breaker. I hate to say it , but maybe you need an amp.
The voltage issue- did it just start with the installation of the system? does it happen with the stereo off? You might have a bad ground in the charging system (did you run hot from the battery?) or a short that draws down the current.
Go to a good parts place and test the charging system to see if you just coincidentally have an alternator going out. But if you're drawing enough current to overdrive your stereo, maybe you just need a battery or clamps and cables.

I THINK THE ALT IS GOING BUT i have my power comming from the stock security light power and the memory from the cigarette lighter constant power.. grounded to a bolt under the shifter and the voltage issue was before the installation of the radio.....
so are you saying i need an amp for my gay speakers? it cant be... i had the same radio installed before and i didnt need one.... the radio i have had 208 watts total 52x4.... should be enough for the rinky dink speaks i have... lol

i doubt the alternator is going...
BTW, stock wiring in these cars suck for the stereo. i had the same problem, stereo would cut out every few seconds when its turned up loud. Ran some new relayed wire from the batter and it worked 100% fine. Never had the problem again.
For the power wire (actually, its better to say switched power... usually red on aftermarket stereos): Get some wire. Get a relay. Relay the wire directly from the battery to the stereo, using the IGNITION as the switch.
For the memory wire (which is pernounced constant, not memory :/ usually yellow, btw): Run a wire directly from the battery to the stereo.
Done, all your power problems with your stereo now solved.
Heh and if you have power coming from something like a security light, NO IT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER.
Heres by best analogy on the situation. You're trying to make a beautiful waterfall with a 1/16th inch pipe. Its just not gonna happen. I admire you're installing your own stereo, but buy a stereo install book or something.
take $30 dollars and have your stereo professionaly installe (even though all they need to do now is run new wire, and rerun the wire harness). otherwise learn why the security light harness doesn't have enough power to power the stereo.
bahh, just run entirely new wires for the speakers too, you'll be suprised how much better your stereo will be when itdoesn't have to feed nice speakers through shitty wiring.

i got an explode head unit as well you have to by pass the amps on the speakers becasue it will over drive the speakers and the relay is cutting power so u do not blow speakers or the individual amps . if you have the individual amps.

I had a similar problem with my stereo before my car died. Ever since the new alternator was installed, my stereo would totally shut down from time to time, and not work at all. It wasn't just at loud volumes, but it was random. Not only that, but the Voltmeter reads to the top almost all the time when I am on the gas, and the Oil Pressure gauge goes to the top too. Is there a such thing as TOO MUCH power coming from the alternator ? I didn't install it, a certain person insisted I let the mechanic do it, but I wouldn't be having those problems if I had. What do ya think ?

i ran new speaker wires as soon as i bought my car..... well the stock radio wires are lost because someone broke into my car and totally ripped the **** outta my radio and wires... and stole it.... so i had to get power and **** from other sources.... well ill try the relayed wire and the straight constant wire from the batt...

oh yeah, and 52x4 is max power, thats an inflated number, ignore it.
Do you have this problem with the car on or off? or both?
running new 12v+ wires is good, remember, the smaller the wire, the higher the resistance.
