radiator warning light

radiator warning light

hi all need some advice on my radiator in my s5 t2 i took it out for a long drive and after an hour and a half the radiator warning light came on and then two secs later, went off i checked the temp gauge as soon as i saw it and the temp was 1/2 way so i carried on driving keeping an eye on the temp gauge wich didnt move, the warning light still comes on for a couple of secs and then goes out it only seems to do it when i come to a complete stop. the light only started coming on after i'd been down a really bumpy road so i was thinking dodgy wiring but am not sure, i dont have a manual as its a jap import, any idea's? would you recomend a new rad? any feed back would be good cheers

well...isn't the temp supposed to be halfway up the gauge on S5's?

When the low coolant light on your dash comes on, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out what to do next. It certainly isn't post on a forum...

yeah, but they're horribly inaccurate


You could have air in the rad thats just popping around, and when it hits that sensor it sets it off. How long have you been driving the car with exsisting coolant before this happened?

That wire does kinda suck... its a single really thin brittle wire. check it out. its directly on top of your rad.

What kinda rad cap do you have? i recomend the ones (i forgot the exacty name at the moment) that have a little pull switch on top. There good for releaseing pressure from the rad without burning the **** outa your face and hands there like 7 bucks. If you just have air bubbles this will help to take care of it.

it has recently had new coolant added. i just have normal rad cap but the one with the pullswitch sounds alrite. i havent seen em over hear but they r prob around

there are TONS of threads covering this problem.

You need to boil the radiator.

With the Cap off, start the car and run for a while, then top off fluid.

this same thing happened to me for like a week straight of incessant buzzing. what happened was my rad hose blew, and spewed coolant everywhere, i was able to limp her home, where i mickey moused the hose and added coolant. my bleeder cap had been broken off so i had to fill with the engine running to try and get the air out of the system, although i was unsuccesful. dont worry, after about a week or so it should stop. something i did that really made a difference was take the rad cap off every time i started it, and topped her up til i could see the fluid. you should have a bleeder cap which will allow the air to escape, try opening that and topping off, run your engine a couple minutes with cap and bleeder open, rev her a couple times and it should take care of it. or you could just drive til the air works out of your lines naturally.
