racing tips

I bought my first rx7 a few weeks ago, and it is my first 5-speed car. Ive put in my new intake and everything, but now my driving skill has to come up to par with the car. Im really smooth with the clutch when im goin slow bc ive driven motorcycles for a long time, but I cant get off fast. what are some techniques to use to get really fast off the line? My shifting is ok and prewtty fast, its just getting going really fast from a stop.

any tips would be appreciated

it's not as easy as it sounds, especially since our cars have low torque. if you drive around with the A/C on, you'll notice it's even HARDER to enage first gear smoothly.

but anyway, practice makes perfect. try revving the engine up to about 4k rpm and experiment by releasing the clutch either quickly or slowly. you will find out what works, and 4k is a good speed to make some power without getting crazy. for all out drag racing you'll probably want to release higher, but for general purpose get-up-and-go, feathering the clutch just right at about 4k will yield good results

your clutch wont last as long but it all depends how many miles are on the clutch now.

right then. but thats how you ahve to do it then rev high and let it out smoothly? (bc jsut popping it out will just make the tires spin wont it?)

yes. just popping it will do one of two things:
A) make your tires spin if you're creating enough power to exceed grip of your tires
B) bog down the engine if you're not making enough power to break grip

it's more likely to be B if you're popping the clutch anywhere below 5-6k (stock N/A)

Also, just so you know, the tranny's don't like speed shifting, or more directly, accidentally letting out the clutch before its in the next gear. They are the weak link in the driveline after the diff. mount (the front one). Have fun.

butt kicking is right, all you will see/smell is his exhaust, i would only do a rolling start with that because it's not worth burning up the clutch to race a bike in an n/a.

take offs are relative to the car, slipping the clutch is the best way to accelerate the best in these cars and every 7 has it's quirks so what works for someone will not work for someone else, you just need to practice and find out for yourself how the car launches best.

i would suggest 4K rev pop the clutch and floor it. it will make the tires spin but not much. then shift at about 6500 RPM's (I alwways get a chirp on 2nd) on my 87 SE
this one works best for me BTW my mods are: k&N filter, RB H/D clutch, electric fan, with 15K on engine

Use the clutch as a control unit. Remember it directs power from the fly wheel and is controlld by the presur plate grabing the fibers of the clutch disk. So now take off and utalize it insted of poping it and fogeting about it.

yeah thats what iver been doing. revivng revving revving then Im leting out trhe clitch fast but really smoothly too so it doesnt spin too much. I had some amazing starts at the lights today on the way home from work, it felt great when I went from 0-120kph totally smoothly, pressed into th seat the whole time and it was all smooth and wonderful. I love this rx7 (after drivin a neon )

yeah I bet the 7 feels a lot better than a neon! lol...

but I gotta say, what is it with people in cars racing people on bikes? I just don't understand... it's beyond apples and oranges... it's like apples and tuna fish... I don't get it.
