main fuse keeps blowing, wtf mate

I got a new battery yesterday so i could turn to gtu over and maybe put some atf in the engine just for s&g's before i start on the rebuild. When I hooked the battery up, the main fuse blew, i found out that it was because of the cap still being on the battery ( it was 11 at night in a barn out in the country..... kinda dark). I also found that the security system had cut off the starter and whatnot because I didnt have the driver's door handle on. I unhooked the 12-pin connector from the silver box behind the glove box, which a search through the forums told me to do when disabling the security. I then installed a new 80 amp fuse and it blew immediately..... any ideas?

Is the polarity on the battery correct?

Is the big alternator cable terminal end touching anything grounded or chaffing anywhere?

Light bulbs don't need to have correct polarity to work fine...

Your alt, ECU, CPU, and several other components do...

If you've got the stock wiring on her, the black with yellow stripe is NEGATIVE (ground)...

you just confirmed it, turn the battery around, you have it hooked up backwards and pray you didn't fry anything.

If you would have read the main power diagram in the FSM wiring schematics, you would have known

Who ever said that black had to be ground?

The Black/Yellow larger gauge wire is the ground only on the battery.

And if you had three years of electronics classes, and still didn't get the concept that every single automotive manufacture uses a different color for power and ground wires, then you either slept through your classes, or need to get your tuition money back.

Apparently you have not been reading wiring diagrams since age 13, or if you looked at the wiring diagram you would have seen B/Y going to ground from the battery.
