Question Racing seats?

hey all,
what do you guys(gals) think about racing seats for the street car? I have never used them and i was wondering what everyone thought about them. like what brands and how they feel stuff like that. I am planning a seat swap of some kind cuz my front drivers seat has about a 1ft long 5"wide tear in it. oh i almost forgot what about 5 pt harnesess? what do ppl think of them?
thanks
nate

I have a NEX racing seat in my FC T2. It fits nice and pretty comfortable. The only drawback, its non-reclinable. Always sit upright. Its good for posture and it was cheap ($170 w/ universal rails). Dont let the price fool you, its still a good seat.

i got a Corbeau(sp?) for my car about a year and a half ago. still havent bought rails to install it. its pretty comfortable sitting in it on the floor in my house, lol. im thinking of selling it and getting one that reclines instead. plus the corbeau is red, and my interior is grey. grey and red dont mix well in my head, but i dont really know how it would look. i really want a black seat, but oh well, i got the corbeau for cheap so i cant really complain.

oh yeah as far as 5-points on the street are concerned, i dont see why not. i plan on doing this eventualy. a frind of mine has 5-points in his miata and ive cruised around in it all day wearing them. it only sux whe you wanna reach for something that requires you to lean forward. and if you dont have the shoulder pads they can kinda hurt after a while.

If you get a harness make 100% sure they are mounted properly, perferably to your roll bar. You DON'T want to be in an accedent with improperly mounted harnesses or in a rollover in race seats without a rollbar.

Corbeaus are very good for the price, but the material does start to show wear after 6 months or so.

another advantage of race seats is it puts yo **** approx 4 inches closer to the floor of the car, a GREAT bonus if you are 6'4" and trying to get extra head room for when you are wearing a helmet

its a totally different sensation driving your car with your **** basically dragging on the road hahaha

i just recently installed the sparco torinos in my 88 vert they were a pain to install but i love them.the pass side is the hardest to get to fit right because of the offset mounting.

With respect to harnesses, you might not want to use them as your primary restraint system on the street. I believe that Schroth is the only manufacturer that makes DOT legal belts, so any other type might get you into trouble with the local constabulary.

There may be other manufacturers that have gone through the DOT certification process, but for most harness manufacturers (Sparco, Simpson, Sabelt, Willans), that process is unnecessary since there market is primarily racers.
