racing seats

What seats are out there that sit as low or lower than stock seats? im in the market for seats but dont want to buy some that will make me sit higher!i love the low seats, and my head almost hits the roof and does hit it if i sit straight up.

Any fixed bucket seat with thin pads and proper rails (adjusted to the low position) should be lower than stock.

I wouldn't bet money on a reclining seat (not really a racing seat anyway) lowering your eyeline.

Throw any adjustable bracket in the trash.
Just bolt the aftermarket seat to the floor.

Bride, Recaro (god i loved those seats but they cost an arm and a leg), Sparco, Seibon, Cobra. any of those seats will be lower (since they mount on rails, and most of them are non adjustable, which it seems is what you want. I would say that the best bet would be to sit in a few of them (in or out of cars) and see which is most comfortable to you (youre the one driving it, so its you that matters) and then pick the best one. Pick something with a good side bolster, god i hate moving in the seat when im taking a corner hard, or sliding the *** end around.

For lowness, side mounts will be better, they should allow you to mount the seat so that it's actually touching the floor, whereas with a bottom mount you won't be able to get it quite that low.

Not to hijack the thread, but I too wanted to bolt in an aftermarket MOMO race bucket, and I was concerned with mounting it back further and lower. Can you buy the brackets from the company or do you have to have them fabbed? I'm 6' 2" and the stock seat is really uncomfortable; it doesn't go back far enough and my head hits the roof.

I've got an NEX bucket (unfortuantely I don't think they make them anymore) and it sits pretty low. I am 6'2 and fit in with no high problems. I could use a bit more leg room (but thats true of any car other than a volkswagon) but the seat is against the rear of backing, so there's not much else you can do. My dad is 6'7 and can fit in it, barely. I'm pretty sure it has side mounts like Black91N/A suggested.

Almost all fiberglass/carbon/etc full bucket seats are side mounts... usually only tube-frame seats are bottom mounts. You definately want a side-mounted seat if you want to gain any headroom (I mean, the stock seat is already pretty damn low, at least on the rear side).

BTW, what sort of angle does your seat have compared to the stock seat? In a racing situation it's good to sit as upright as possible, but if you adjust the stock seat too high you either run out of headroom or your back is strained because whether or not it "molds" to you depends on the shape of your back and the seat angle. I hope it's a nice comprimise, or that it was at least molded to someones back instead of just sort of randomly put together to look cool. If that's the case you can at least change it with lumbar pads or something.

I use a bride bucket with bride rails. They sit lower than stock, but boy they're expensive.

Cheapest place to get seats is eBay. You can get great deals on used seats and probably really good prices on new ones too

I got mine on ebay 2 years ago, still as comfortable as when they were new. Think I paid like 350 USD including shipping.
