a quicky favor please?

I could really use a favor that would probably take only a minute or two if someone would be so kind to do so. There is a wire coming off the a/c compressor (going to a/c clutch), its black on my car. Well, one of the previous owners who owned the car before me decided to just "break" that wire. So I've got about 6" of wire coming off the a/c compressor. Can someone follow this wire and tell me where it ends up? I am assuming it goes to a relay somewhere, but I have no idea where or how.

So, cliffnotes...

wire coming off a/c compressor behind the pulley. Where does it go and how does it get there?
Photos would be very helpful.

Its hot here in FL and I'm trying to get an a/c system functioning on this car.

Thanks in advance.

it goes on the front (radiator) side of the driver strut tower, on the wiring harness. down by the batter tray... theres a single plug down there by 2 white plugs (2 white plugs are for the PS and look like the plug on top of the CAS) - there should be a single connector there for it i believe...

if i can dig up a pick quick ill try n point it out

well, if the wires broken, then its not connected. If its not connected, it obviously wont work. So, it = broken. lol

Just trying to get the a/c fixed before a hot, rainy day in FL!

Ive taken some photos today of the wire and suspected clip. Can anyone confirm that this is the clip where the wire should terminate? Thanks in advance

sorry for the crappy quality, using my Sidekick at work to try to get results

broken wire

designated clip?

left is battery, wire comes from under battery. Up top of photo is a/c compressor. Hope that helps reference.

awesome, gonna get my checklight out on lunchbreak and check it out. If I get power with the a/c button on, then I'll rehook the wire and see how she does. Hopefully she'll blow cold. If not, buddy of mine is a mechanic and he can test the sytem for leaks and replace what needs to be replaced.

Thanks a lot for the help. I'll get back with results.

well, lunch sucked. Tried Campbells new "low fat" Broccoli Cheese soup...which SUCKED!!!

On a positive note, a/c button off = no light power to the wire. a/c button on = a nice warm glow from the test light. So, correct wire. made a jumper from the broken wire off the compressor to the now verified a/c wire and the clutch engages! YES!!! Sitting in the driveway the air didnt blow cold, but I didnt have any air running the system (like driving) so I'm gonna make a more permanent connection and do some driving. If it doesnt blow cold I'm gonna take it to my buddy and have him run a few tests on it, try to get some results and maybe a simple recharge, of course hoping thats all I'm looking at.

Question: when the clutch turns out the engine really seems to be laboring while idling around 800rpm. The voltmeter is very "twitchy" and sitting right at 12 volts. The battery of the car is brand new, am I looking at an infamous weak 2nd gen alternator? Would you suggest the FD alt swap?

also, why is my post count not going up? Im trying to get to the pre-requisite number of posts so I can throw up some "WTB" ads for the parts I need but my post count seems to not be going up with the posts that I make. I'm not post-whoring or anything of the like.

Don't try to run R134a in this car. This car is not a good candidate for conversion. The performance will suck and the extra high pressures form the 134a will suck the power out of your car. Really.
If you cannot run the original R12, you will be successful with Freeze12. Most anything else will cause the system to struggle. The condenser area is too small for 134.

I would suggest that you fix your dicey gauge. Also check the grounds, great info in the sticky. The infamous weak alt is not too weak for normal loads. You have to actually overload it to expose the weakness. If it will make you feel better take it to autozone and have it tested.

Most of your posts were moved to the 'COOKING forum, where post count only rises with successful recipe reviews.
