quick rebuild question

Hey guys. Im just starting to rebuild my first engine. Only real question I had for you all was is there any solvent you guys particularly recommend in cleaning the rotors and housings of carbon buildup? Quite a bit on the rotors but the housing dosnt have much. just some carbon "scuffs" around certain spots. There is no chrome flaking that I can see at all, so I am very happy lol. What would me best to get any of that carbon off the housing, solvent that wont mess with the chrome, and would it be best to use a very soft pad or cloth of some type? Thank a bunch guys. Looking forward to this. Going to be fun.

This has been covered many, many times. I did a quick search for "rebuild carbon clean":

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthread.php?t=475683
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showthread.php?t=362608

There are a bunch more topics. More can also be found just playing with the search terms a bit.

Thank alot. Sorry for the dumb question, but it was late. I did a search on the forum but cant find a straight answer about cleaning the inside of my housings. I have carbon "skids" on the inside and would like to know the best way to clean it, without harming the chrome? Would carb cleaning and a soft applicator pad work?

Thanks but thats not what im looking for. I pretty much get how to clean the rotors, but I need to find the best way to clean the inside surface of my rotor housing. The chromed area. Thanks again.

Carb cleaner, degreaser and elbow grease. A stiff bristle brush will do it. Anything that is baked or imbedded into the chrome should just be left. A mild Scotch bright pad will work as well.

If you have access to a parts washer table it's a wonderful thing to have during a rebuild.
