Quick question....

Hey all,

I am having a problem starting my car after long periods of inactivity (by long I mean like 5 days and incactivity I mean not starting it up or anything). It is'nt flooded... and it is'nt cold out. As I try to crank it, it almost sounds as if the car wants to start but there is'nt enough power to start her up.... The prvious owner was running an Amp for his stero system (he took out amp and subs but the fuse cable coming off the battery is still there.) I am thinking that this is probably just a battery that has had it and been drained too much by the amp perhaps... and I need to get a new one that has some power to it and will charge when the engine is running (the current battery charges fine... but I don't think it keeps charge very long.. as I turn things on such as defrost or A/C or power windows the voltage guage goes a little sparatic on me... dropping down pretty low soemtimes then shooting back up...)

I am going to buy a new battery tommorrow and see what happens just wannted to see if you guys had encountered similar problems... or if you think it is the battery as well...

Thanks again!

Chris

A cashed battery won't cause your alternator to act like that. Sounds like you might have a toasted alternator. I'd get that checked before dropping cash on a battery.

Our alternators are puny to begin with not having to deal with a big amp's draw. (which could easily have been half the output of the stock alt)
