I think you need to keep reading more about RX-7s, because your question makes no sense at all.

Turbo & Turbo II?...
One main path that the new RX-7 did not want to go, was the big bulky " luxury sports car ". The new RX-7 was going to be built from ground up to be a light purposeful true enthusiasts sports car. Mazda introduces the 1985 2nd Generation RX-7 ( more popularly called the " FC " ) as a 1986 model. Numerous upgrades were made 'standard' at this point, including a standard 13B-DEI 146HP engine and 4-wheel disc brakes. For the first time in North America in 1987 a 180HP Turbo model was made available. The Turbo model was called Turbo II ( even though in press releases it was known as the GT ) because there was a Turbo I model in the previous generation RX-7. The transmission in the Turbo II model was a heavy-duty Type-R where the rest of the models would get the cheaper Type-M. The new RX-7 was a hit with the public and the best sales figures to date for the RX-7 have proved that ( 56,243 out of 72,760 produces in the the first year )

The Turbo II doesn't imply that there's a Turbo I. Hoo boy, how to explain this...

In Japan, there was a turbocharged 1st generation RX-7, the Turbo II is that car's successor. However, that turbo 1st gen was never imported here. So in the United States, we have a name for a successor of a car that was never available here. Make sense?

So to answer your question: The main difference would be that a "Turbo I" is a 1st gen, and a Turbo II is a 2nd gen.

Steve

P.S. Interestingly enough, the 2nd gens in Japan are NOT called Turbo IIs, they are either GT-X's, GT-R's, GT-Unlimeted's, etc etc. Welcome to Rx7Club

The question may not make sense to most, but it does to me If it was physically seen, I think the originator may be referring to a very rare '86 Turbo. If memory serves correctly, they aren't designated as Turbo 11. And yes, there're a few '86 Turbo's running around, although Mazda didn't officially campaign the Turbo until '87... Don't ask how I know

Well Steve, you're entitled to your opinion and so am I The point being, some Turbo's don't display *11* after Turbo, which could lend a different interpertation, BUT I don't think so.

I bought a JDM engine from some guy and on the intercooler it said Turbo instead of the more common Tubo II for the USDM models. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
