Questions And HELP please
Ok I am VERY new to the RX7 rotary engine.
I did a search on this and came back with enough results to keep me busy till next year but after breifly looking over I did'nt see anything that matched what I am doing.
I have a 86 RX7 with a 13b engine, it "WAS" fuel injected but the wireing harness was toasted when I got it. A buddy of mine talked me inbto going carbed.
So after takeing all the fuel injection stuff off and getting the carb on and set up all nice and neat looking. I have no fire at all.
I checked every fuse I can find on the care and they are all good. Engine turns over, getting plenty of fuel just no spark.
Is the ignition system tied in with the ECU?
I was told its not, but I am wondering cause I had fire befor I pulled that crap out.
Allso there is a plug that goes on the back of the alternator, Dont know actual name for it I just call it the Feild Wires plug. I am told it should be on the engine bay driver side wireing harness But once again now that the fuel injection is removed it is nowehere to be found, and I checked the harness and there are no cut wires anywhere.
I'm sure some of you are rolling your eyes saying "n00b"
But I could use some ecperianced peoples advice here.
Thanks

Of course the ECU controls timing. That's it's basic function next to fuel injection. You're in for a world of hurt with a 20B (are you absolutely POSITIVE it's a 20b, and not a 13B?) Since I don't believe a dizzy can fire them. Private message RETed, he's one of the few I know of that could help you.
But as far as the ECU, yes thats what I was thinking.
every car that I have ever worked on that was fuel injected, the ECU had to know what the ignition was doing in conjuction with what the fuel was doing.
So basicly I am going to need to tear all that **** out too and go with the older style diz with a cap and rotor.

Yeah, unless you rig up the ECU to think it's running fuel , but really isn't (doesn't always work) The dizzy way is the best route for carb setups that I've seen. You may want to search a little more, since I've never run a carb setup myself, and this is only what I've learned/read about myself.
