Questions of boost
Hey, this is really starting to bother me. I've got an '89 TII with intake boost controller and Autometer boost guage. The problem is, I don't know how much boost I'm blowing and I want to find a good safe amount (at or near stock). I've had my boost guage read 11-12 psi with no fuel cut! The few times I hit fuel cut were nighttime highway races and I'm not sure what the guage read (it doesn't light up-ghetto fabulous!) So I figure I was hitting about 8.6psi at that time? Since my gauge isn't accurate, what should stock boost feel like and how should it sound. My turbo gets pretty loud and feels great when the guage reads 10psi, but there's no fuel cut and the car feels about as fast as I would expect stock. Any help would be great, just want to set boost at stock and leave it.
thanks in advance

do you have any exhaust mods? where is the gauge hooked into? you will get higher boost at night on the highway when it's cold. but I don't think you could hit 11-12psi with a stock exhaust unless your boost controller was set there.

Hey, thanks for the info. No exhaust mods. See, what I'm saying is I think the guage is showing more than it's actually blowing, cause I couldn't hit 15psi with the fuel cut in place anyway, right? It was very cold though.... What should it sound like? When I hit 15 (on the guage) the turbo was louder than the exhaust, soo I don't know if that s good or not?
and hey, I don't mean no disrespect

Rotary Freak
I read somewhere that some s5 tII cars actually do not hit the 8.6psi fuel cut. You must be lucky. Also you probably do not want to hit anything more that like 9psi on a stock motor with no fuel upgrades or at least an FCD. Sounds like you may want to port your wastgate at least if you are hitting 15 psi. I'd be careful if I were you. It sux when a rotary pops.
Go get an A/F Guage or search under my previous posts on how to build your own. 15psi on stock fuel is prolly running you leaner than an anorexic **** star.

If you have a vac/boost guage it should be 0 when the engine is off. If its not then your guage is not calibrated correctly and will show higher or lower boost then it should be. Ive seen autometer guages come like this new in the box. You should check that out first if its off get a new one and then you will know for sure how much boost you are making and not have to guess if you are hitting fuel cut cuss thats kinda scary.

Would hesitations in revving be a symptom of running lean? During my 'high boost' runs the engine would stutter pretty badly two or three times, but it never does this normally. I have an A/F guage that came with the car, only it's not hooked up right now. Is it pretty easy to do (including wiring it into the electrical system)?
Thanks for all the help
