Question regarding wastegate porting

If I were *hypothetically of course* to port teh wastegate, but leave the stocker flapper on. What would the turbo lag be like? I'm not going to, as I have a piston valve to weld on, but I'm just interested to know. EDIT: Oh and another thing, if this was to happen, there would still be no boost creep becuase of the larger hole correct?

thanks

You can still get boost creep even if you port the wastegate as far as the stock flapper allows.... Need a bigger flapper to get rid of it all together. (which, i assume is why you go the valve to weld on)

Lag will not be affected by porting the wastegate unless you get it to big for the flapper to cover it completely

The point of having a larger flapper welded on is so that you can port past the area of the stock flapper.

You can also cut excess material of the back side of the flapper arm, so it can open wider before hitting the back plate.

I think you guys missinterpreted the question slightly. I meant like port the wastegate to say 25-30mm but leave the small 15mm flapper on. So there would be a large gap that the flapper could not cover.

umm... that's probably not a smart idea if you want the turbo to spool properly

Wait a minute..... (reads ten more times) .... ....... ...

The "waste"gate opens to keep boost levels from rising... when your turbo is *trying* to boost.... oh hell, thered be no reason to have your wastegate flapper or actuator on at all! Just make an overly large gaping hole in your exhaust and see how well your turbo boosts
