Question on convertible targa section.

I have read that they changed the targa section between '88 and '89 due to leaking. Does anyone know what the difference is? I have an '88 that leaks several places around the targa section but the seals look good .

I have both 88 and 89 targas here and the only difference I see is there is a ridge of material on the top seam, possibly to channel the water away from the window, mine does not leak with either the 88 or 89 sections on it.
Where is yours leaking?

It is leaking on the front passenger side between the targa and the windshield, and it is leaking at the back of the targa behind the driver's seat where it meets the softtop. I have also noticed a little leakage along the top of the driver's door at the front where it meets the targa top.

Are the little rubber "cups" still in place?. I had a leak on both sides where the windshield met the top and I re glued those little cups back in place and adjusted the windows to make sure they went up all the way and that solved the leaks there, As for the back section I am not sure what to do, mine has never leaked there.

Yes the little rubber cups are in place, and the windows go all the way up. The rubber is intact with no cracking. I had just heard that the newer verts had modified tops with rain channels. I hate to put over $500 in rubber on the thing when the seals look good.

Mine has never leaked there. Only at those stupid little cups. It gets really bad though.

worn/bad targa seals (on the Targa section) is what is causing the leak, or mis-adjusted clamps.

The 88 and 89+ tops are the same other than a water channel built into where the roof seam is and a water/drain built into the rear section. just behind the doors.

you can rub some ATF fluid on the rubber and it will cause it to swell and help stop the leak or if its a small one it will stop it completely.
