Question bout oils..

alright i beilive i have bad oil controll rings becuase my car is smoking alot. i have check compression and both rotors are good, changed turbos so i know its not bad turbo seal. so thats the only thing i can think it is.. soo my question is can i run a thicker oil.. like 20-30w and should that maby cut down the smoking.? or what?? i usally use 5-30w ..

im also running premix so i dont have to worry about the MOP...

I use 20w50 castrol. That is a pretty common viscosity for most weather.

You might also be over doing it on the premix? I don't have any experience premixing on the Rx7, but my Lawn Boy always smokes...

And you may also have a bad seal on both of those Turbos.

Yes, what he said. In the States, it would be 20w50 if you want 'thicker oil'

And read carefully. You may be using too much oil in the premix.

Pre-mix will lower the octane, but smoking from oil usage wouldn't change based on the octane

Actually, if the oil control rings are going, and you want to try to lessen the smoking... swithing to a heavier oil will make it worse. The rings are designed to cut through the oil, and wipe it all away and leave none behind. As they get worn out the start to hydroplane over the thick 20W50 oil, and leave alot behind, to burn and smoke. Switching to something like 10W30 will allow the rings to cut through the thinner oil once again, instead of hydroplaning over it. This means less will be left behind in the combustion chamber, and, less smoke.

but now that i read the post over you say you allready run 5W30, and I wouldnt go any thinner than that!

i use 1/2oz per gallon. (recomended on bottle.)
i am using synthetic sence i dont have OMP and i was told that is alright.
smoke color changes.. from light haze of blue to grey. to thick blue. to not smoking at all. to smoking like a chimney(spl.?) i dont go through coolant so i know it aint coolant seals. but i do go threw oil.

when the car is smoking bad it kinda smells like burnt rubber... ? when i mean bad i mean whole intersection filled with smoke and can barley see across to the other side..
