Question for anyone who has rebuilt a 13B

I just lost a coolant seal in my AE, and had a quick question.

Aside from the gasket and seal package offered from Mazdatrix ($317), from and rear seals ($15 total), what do you all find needs replacing fairly often. I don't mind paying $330 for a couple of parts I don't need, but I can't justify spending $1000 for the rotor kit including apex seals, springs and other things I don't necessarily need. I am just trying to get my budget straight before I pull the engine, so any help would be appreciated.

how many miles are on the motor? how's the compression? you may be able to get away with just using this http://www.rotaryaviation.com/o-ring_kits.htm

about 110, 000...I just wasn't sure how many people needed to replace corner seals, side seals, springs, and stuff...let alone all of them

You might as well while the engine is apart. No sense in replacing the seals and then having to pull the motor apart 20k miles later to do the apex seals.

Full rebuild kit at that mileage... count on replacing an iron, too.

Reusing the stock hard seals right now just b/c they work would be like saving a toothbrush with just one bristle left... sure, it'll still brush your teeth, but for how much longer?

from what i've heard: (and my personal experience thus far)

Apex Seals: If it's been more than 20,000: Replace them
Side Seals: likely will NOT need to be replaced. you'll have to check
Corner Seals: Likely will NOT need to be replaced. you will, however, have to make sure you replace the springs
seals springs: It's up to you if you're trying to preorder. my apex seal springs were within spec when I tore down @ 218k. I replaced the side seals springs cause they were cheap, and the same with the corner seals.

hope this helps.

Ya, probably right...after some research, no point in trying to half-*** this thing. I bought it with a T04, Haltech, lightweight flywheel, nd loads of other things. Probably buy a pair of rotor housings and just replace all seals and springs internal. Looking at about $2000 for all of that. Irons will b evaluated.

Unless the coolant seal bad area corroded the heck out of the iron, you shouldn't have to worry about that. If you go with new rotor housings and rebuild her like you stated above, she'll last another 100K, I'd say. My side housings didn't even have .002" of wear after 186K, and they're supporting about 120 psi compression everywhere now, days away from hitting 10,000 miles on the rebuild (new rotor housings, RA master kit). Spent $2600 all told (new mounts all around, new hoses, etc...) Have fun

That's definitely reassuring!
