Question question about wiper switch

Alright so my wiper switch hasn't worked since before I got the car over 2 years ago...On intermittent the blades will move like maybe 2 or 3 inches and stop and not move again, low and high speeds and mist all work fine except that when you switch them off the blades just stop right where they are. I know this is very common, but I'm wondering if I need to get a new relay in the switch or do I need to repair the connections in the switch/get a new/rebuilt one?

thanks

You can swap the relay, but it's much easier just to replace the switch.

in about 80% of the time replacing the relay and re-soldering the switch fixes the problem.

Occasionally they will need other parts like transistors as well.

And occasionally the switch contacts in the motor will cause problems requiring replacement of the motor.

I have posted a couple times on how to rebuild the switch here, as well as I have rebuilt ones (or can rebuild yours for you) and also have a heavy duty 8 amp sealed replacement wiper relay available on my website.

I had the exact same problem, you have to replace the relay. It's very easy to do.
This site has fool proof instructions on how to do it.
The hardest part is waiting for the damn relay to arrive via ups (took me 8 days)

In case your rear wiper (if equiped) is not working either, you can replace it's relay with the one you removed from the front wipers.. it worked perfectly for me. good luck

If you replace the rear wiper relay with the one you took out from the front... and the front didn;t work before... your rears would still not work correctly.

That's what I thought too, but nope.. it worked perfectly, I guess since the rear wiper doesn't have as many funtions as the front wipers it was able to make use of the half-broken relay.

Sounds more like you didn't need a front relay, but just a re-soldering.

When I placed it on the rear wipers I was so surprised, like yourself, that it worked that I put it back into the front wipers. When I tested it I was back to the same non-intermittent, won't park when off wipers.

damn to replace the relay sounds like a real pain in the ***, what with the soldering and ****. Yeah Icemark I checked out your website before and saw the rebuilt switches...wasn't real sure if it was worth that much...but now that I see just how much hastle it is to replace those parts, and that you know they work right I totally say it's worth every penny. I'll just order one of yours at the end of the week.

Yes, you've made a good choice compared to $400+ new. Icemark's prices are very reasonable. Why didn't I know about his site before spending a fortune????
