Question Question about MMO

OK, this may be a dumb question but why is Marvel Mystery Oil also referred to as "Snake Oil"? i've heard it here on a few occasions. also what type of oil is it exactly? is it really a "mystery"?
TIA

snake oil is slang for bullshit.

it is rather a mystery... it smells like listerine though

Ive been using it on my T2, its supposed to break up carbon deposits and stuff like that..What i did was to experiment i put a carbon fouled sparkplug in a cup with some MMO, and to my surprise within 2 days the carbon just melts off the plug..So i decided to put it in my car.

Well, I use the stuff myself. To tell you the truth, i'm rather dissapointed. It worked in ALL my other cars (from helping with compression issues, to rough idling, to cleaning injectors) except my t2, i still have a rough idle. Not to say the product doesnt work, its just that i have another issue And i'm dissapointed a magic mechanic in a bottle didnt fix it

But it is a good product!!! two thumbs up.

I did the exact same test with 4 plugs. I could rub the carbon off with a rag...the stuff is great. I haven't used it as a fuel additive since I've gone to premix, though, seems like overkill, but who knows .

Don't most use it like ATF fluid trick in that they pour some in the spark plug holes or do they actually use it like it's meant to be used in a piston engine? I'm leary of using fuel additives designed for conventional engines. But I don't see it would harm since it's still fuel injection but I'm just curious as to which way would have better results.

i put some in my gas almost everytime i fill up, and some in the oil everytime i change it, there is actualy a diff. in gas milage (for me anyway) when i use it and i don't, the engine also seems to idle better when i use it
