Question about Half Shaft Differences

I have a quick question about the difference between a S4 TII and N/A half shaft size. Are the half shafts interchangeable? I have the RX-7 Parts CD, and I can only find one part number for this part. I realize the stub shafts coming out of the differential are different sizes between the TII and N/A, but are the half shafts the same size?

Thanks,
Greg

They are not interchangeable in any way shape or form. The actual shaft is a bigger diameter and the flange is different as well. Good TII axles are hard to find these days and seem tro command a much higher price than they should. There are some suitable substitues but they are almost as hard to find.

Hmmm... that sucks. I was just coming back here to edit my post, because after I thought about it, I realized that the shafts had to be different lengths between the two.

I was going to ask about the flange size between the two, if it was interchangeable (ie the end that bolts to the differential flange), but you answered that for me.

Anyone have any good ideas what to do about elongated holes in the half shaft flange (as opposed to buying used ones)? Weld and redrill?

Elongated holes sounds like a really great idea... if you want to kill yourself. Weld and redrill sounds a lot better, assuming that it can be done with precision machinery. When the halfshafts on my NA RX-7 died I just ordered some really nice rebuilt shafts from ISC Racing. They may also rebuild TII halfshafts, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Yes, you are right Evil, elongated holes aren't such a great idea. Fortunately, when the right hand side half shaft broke, no *real* damage was done to the car. I had the same thought about once the holes are welded up... the holes need to be drilled in a very precise location, or I beleive the same issue would happen again.
