TX Question about 2nd gen interior

I originally posted this in the interior section, but thought i might get a better answer here.

So I have a s5 vert that i bought for 500 dollars, and is basically my first "hands on" car. I have replaced a lot of the interior and am working my way through my problems.

The first problem i have is i can not find any steering wheel surrounds for the air bag fitted 2nd gens. I don't want to pay out the butt for a new one from mazdatrix, although if i have to i will.

My goals with this car are to keep it as nice, clean, and original as possible, so please don't tell me to just get a different steering wheel. i like the leather/airbag OEM.

That being said, does anyone know if there is a way to get the non-airbag to fit the airbag-equipped?

nope, the 90 and 91 verts that have SRS (an air bag) use a stalk mount turn signal that no other FC models use.

VA rollen with ice on that one...

first gen air bags on any car manufacturer tend to have a more bulky steering column...

Now one option that I have not tried, so I don't know if it will even fit, is to take a non SRS equipped one, and cut it using a Dremel or small saw to make holes for the stalks... but unless you have some precision and are detail oriented it may look bad.

and again I have not personally tried to cut and modify a standard one and see if it could be made to fit. I am not even sure if the screw holes will line up between the two.

Check this auction from eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda...Q5fAccessories

I know you're not looking for a steering wheel but if they have a steering wheel with an airbag you could email them and ask if they have the surround and for how much.

Good luck! Welcome to the boards!

Cheers,
Cody
