wont hold idle.. (already searched)

Here is where i stand...i have an 88 GTU

i just put new plugs in, standard NGK's, same ones ive always used. When i took the old ones out, they wreaked of gas. i let it air out and made sure it wasnt flooded anymore. put the new plugs in and had a hell of a time cranking it. after it warmed up, it would barely hold idle. it drops down to about 350-450rpms and eventually die if i didnt blip the throttle. also, it smells like unburnt gas as im cranking.

after i get it moving past 1k, it runs fine, has a little bit of a stutter around 3k, than smoothes out again. ive already replaced my pulse dampner with an S5 fuel rail, BUT its running the same way as it was when the pulse dampner was leaking...making me think im losing fuel pressure somewhere. its got a walbro 255lph thats only been in for roughly 2-3 months. i can hear the pump kick on like normal, so i dont think its the pump.

CLIFF NOTES:
Car wont idle, already changed new plugs, car wreaks of raw gas under cranking, pulse dampner already replaced, has walbro 255...loss of fuel pressure maybe?

walbor 255, is this turbo, your probably running really rich. check your afm

Why do you have a Walbro on the car?
I am thinking "no wonder it is running rich"!The pump is giving the engine too much fuel.That is why you are Flooding,that is why the car smells of Fuel.
change back to the Stock Pump,The walbro is overkill for a Stock engine,and isn't necessary,unless the Engine is Modified or is a TII.
My .02 anyways..

i did some research on here a while back when my factory pump when out...the only feedback i got was that it was ok to use on a stock N/A. whats normal fuel pressure on an n/a?

ill try to get a hold of a stock one. its always run fine since ive had it in there though. never given me problems till the weather started getting cold out here.

whats the method for checking the afm? also, what should good compression be on a stock n/a?

You may have a faulty, (aka, "leaking") fuel injector. Consider pulling the injectors out and having them tested/cleaned/refurbished. Cruzin Performance is one place that you can have that done.

ok, compression read 90 on both rotors.

havent been able to test the fuel pressure yet. i was about to try to test the afm, but it started raining.

when i try to crank though, the volts drop way below 12.

so i checked my TPS, thinking that might be my issue aswell...it was way off, i tried adjusting it like it says in the haynes manual and it didnt do anything.

ima try that 1st, i love working at a parts store...lol

well, it was the TPS

i put the new one on, reset the ECU and tried to crank it....fired RIGHT up, no issues....

cept this...now it idles at 3k, and if i try to drive it, it gets to 3900 and does a horrible studder and slowly tries to climb to 4k.

i took off the new TPS and the little piston that goes in and out of the TPS is jammed in there, its stuck. i pulled it out, but as soon as it tries to go back in it gets stuck. the old one moves freely. the new one moved freely when i pulled it out of the box, but as soon as i installed it, it got stuck down.

if i reinstall the old one, it goes back to doing the same thing it did before.

Well, rev-ing up to 3000 is ok when cold, but if it's warm then it definitely isn't ok! Check your Air Flow Meter, and also check to see that there is proper play in the throttle cable. And the fact that your "new" TPS gets "stuck" is alarming, you sure its new?

yea, it was brand new BWD part....i got it though my work at orielly's. i had to send it back and get another. it came in yesterday and i got it on there. its running WAY better. its not doing the rev thing and its holding idle now.

now something else is acting up. it still stumbles a little under starting. it holds idle, it wont die, but it still idles low and it sounds like it has a bad miss. it also feels sluggish while driving at any rpm. im gonna throw some new plugs in there cause these may have fouled with all the rough starts it had while the old TPS was still in there.
