Putting big power to the ground.....

What are all the serious drag racers useing for wheel and tire combos. 400+ to the wheels. I was looking into the 15x9 weld draglites, but I'm not sure what backspacing is best for the rx-7's? I've got an 86 GXL 5 lug.... Could anyone help me out with the correct backspacing?

Thanks

Stock backspacing is 5.0", but you can all the way down to 6.0".

So with a spacer your saying a 10" slick would fit in the wheel wells?

15X10 draglites. They have 6.5 backspacing with 1/4" spacers.

So this tire would fit? with the correct spacers?

We've run 26" x 9" x 15" slicks with no problem.
I can't confirm if a 10" wide slick will fit, but it should with proper backspacing.

11.6 was run with 15x6" wheels (stock n/a) with slicks (don't remember what kind). wasn't me or my car. as cool as those wide wheels look (and hell, i'd get em, too, they look nice), you don't necessarily need that extra width. if you have the funds, though, by all means. just lettin ya know. get back to us on times.

More of a saftey issue..... I have 275 60 15's on the stock 15x6 rims... It's retarded how unsafe the car is at speed..... The tires were on the rx-7 when I bought it..(you crazy rotary guys!) Anyway I need to fix the tire problem before I have the ***** to drive it over 100....

Your best bet is a 26x9" tire on an 8" rim with 5.5" or 6" backspacing. A 27-28" tire will fit if you roll the quarters so the lip doesn't slice the tire.

I can tell you that 275/50-15" BFG Drag Radials on a 15x8" with 5" backspacing will rub no matter what - unfortunately I really like the wheels I am using and they don't make a 6" backspacing on these. I am either going to change to a height-adjustable coil over setup or go to a 27x8.5 tire I think.

Oh, and with 400 hp you don't need a 10" tire. I have more than that and my Drag Radials barely spin even when cold. Go with an 8" slick - there are guys running 9's on them with 1.3-1.4 60ft times.

Thank for all the info! Although I find it odd that a 275/50-15" BFG Drag Radials on a 15x8" with 5" backspacing will rub? Maybe it's because I'm running a 60 series? I dunno I have a 275 60 15 on there now...stock GXL rim (5 star). And I have pleanty of room? I was wanting to stick with the 60 series to offset the crazy mazda rearend gearing. My GN only rev's to 5500 max. I'm in OD at half track at the 1/4. How do you do with your gearing? Have you tried running taller tires?

Thanks again
Adam
