Pulsation Dampner, Lucky Me

last night, about three miles from home I start to smell a little gas. Well, with all of the talk on the forum about pulsation dampners and fires thats the first think I checked the next day.
I took off the plastic cover and the screw with rubber washer fell out. I lock-tighted the threads, put it back in and JB welded it in for good measure.
Was I lucky, no fire!!

VERY lucky no fire. It is a good idea to install a fuel cut switch if you don't want to install a S5 PD and fuel rail. Glad to hear about a lucky victim of PD failure!!!

I got a question while we're on it. I need to replace mine and have a new one right here. I haven't gotten to my old on on my car but how do you tighten it in? Can you take off the plastic cover without hurting anything? How tight do you tighten it? Thanks.

I'm no expert on the subject(hopfully there is someone on this forum that is), but on both of my cars (now), I have just lock-tighted the screw, tightened it in the hole and covered the whole thing with JB weld.
What I need to know on this most recent problem is why should I replace the whole dampner when it was just the screw that vibrated out over the years? The o-ring looked good on the screw and with the JB weld- lock-tight I don't believe it will ever back out again.

Sorry, as to your question. Just pop the plastic cover off of the old one to get at the screw. I don't know what inch pounds I tightened it to, but snug.
To replace the whole unit, if I remember right the whole thing just unscrews from the fuel rail.
