pulsation dampener????
pulsation dampener????
OK.1st I did a search and came up with 386 results of which would take more than I have to look over with dial-up
so....
I read a few post that say you NEED to replace or fix this.
what is it and what do I need to fix and where do I get it?
If I were not on dial-up I would try harder to find a post about it but now I do not have that many hours left in the day.
thanks
Mike

ummm.....do you have an s4 or an s5 first of all?
it makes a difference in the part that youll need to order.
First of all, test it before you go getting a new one. Its a plastic cap looking thing thats behind and a bit to the left of the alt if you stand looking into the engine bay. With the car running or with the fuel system pressurized, put your finger on the cap thinger. If you can feel it pulse, then you should be fine. If theres no pulses youll have to get the part from www.mazdatrix.com .
Then its off with the TB and UIM and either unscrew the old PD (s4) replace the washers and put everything back together, or replace the rail(s5) In either case, be very careful to labe everything when taking it apart if its your first time, and be very very careful with the wiring as it is old and will break very easy. Then youll probably have to replace your wiring harness.....not that I know this from personal experience or anything....
Anyways, for a first timer doing all this Id be generous and budget about 5 hours for the job.
Good luck

It is a part of the fuel system and is usually on the primary fuel rail.
On Series 4 cars it is a part which you can unbolt.
On Series 5 fuel rails it is built in(supposedly less prone to leaking)
It helps dampen fuel pressure spikes due to the injectors opening and closing. It helps make sure the injectors all send out the same amount.
Without it you run the change of some pushing more fuel than others whicah can mes with things like AFR's.
You will need to replace it immediately if you smell gas under the hood. It can potentially burn your car down.
Some people put a banjo bolt in it's place but you've then removed the dampening system in your car.
New ones are pretty expensive. Noot sure how much though.
To replace it you have to remove the Upper manifold.

Don't forget to get all the parts you're gonna need for the swap: intake gasket(s), new vac lines to replace the ones you're gonna break, new injector o-rings, and maybe injector lower grommets, in case they crack on ya, new fuel lines if ya want to replace the crusty heat-soaked hardened ones that are probably on there...
The cheapest way would be...
Get some RTV sealant and hope your manifold gasket stays in one piece when you pull it off.
Then get about 4 inches of Fuel injection hose(not carb fuel hose).
You don't need injector o rings or grommets if you leave the fuel rail on. You only have to remove the end of it.
I did break some vac lines though. But I have a parts car to gank stuff off of.
