pulling a tranny.

I need some advice on pulling a t2 tranny. Im having problems getting it away from the motor and it seems to be binding on the input shaft splines, clutch disc. as well as the dowel pins. When I try to man-handle the damn thing the motor tends to move with the tranny and I cant get enough play between the two.

Any suggestions on how to easily remove the transmission.

Has anybody had this problem before?

Please help.

Shim the engine so that it cannot move, then get under the car and slightly wiggle the transmission as you pull it straight out. Should slide out easily as long as nothing is stuck or holding it in.

Thank you Aaron. But how can you shim the motor to prevent it from moving? Do you put blocks on the side of the motor or...?

Let's say if something is stuck internally either it is the splines or the if the throw out bearing is history, then it will be extremely tuff to remove the tranny right?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The engine hanger bolt is pretty long. Are you hanging up on that? It on top, about three inches off ceterline to the right. Gotta clear that.

Also Make sure the shifter is disconnected. May seem like common sense, but when you are looking around UNDER the car for things that are holding it in place, you often forget about things INSIDE.

Easiest way is to put a block of wood between the intake and the firewall.

A dead throwout bearing won't effect it, but if the splines of the clutch are bound up (very rare) it will take some effort to pull off.

Also take HAILERS suggestion. The top bolt tends to make the transmission hang. Putting a little grease on it so the tranny slides off makes things easier.

Thank you, guys for all the support......the tranny is out....it wasn't that bad.....I guess we just got frustrated on why the tranny didn't just slide right off. We got the tranny off with a lot of of wiggling, pulling, pushing efford using different positions....

It turns out the ploit bearing was shot.....and the throw out bearing was stuck on the shaft due to lack of lubrication.
