Pulled the studs from the exhaust manifolds, changed with bolts now LOUD?

Ok heres the deal. I swapped my stock exhaust with a full racing beat exhaust, i got new gaskets all around, had a new 02 bung welded in (stock one was stripped), new stud for the presilencer welded, basically this thing was going to have NO leaks.

I pulled the stock header off and the 2 upper studs came with the nuts i undid, i tried threading it back in and pulling the nuts but no go. Next I went to the bolt store and had them match the stud with a bolt, got that and it wouldn't thread with the nut that was off the stud that was remaining but it threaded nicely into the area where the stud was pulled, odd. I put the rb header on and tightened everything, and BOOM huge leak at the header-engine, I shut it off retightened and it was just spinning so i quit and thought it was taking of the threads. Basically now i'm stumped I have the stock studs with the stuck nuts, if i were to approach that how would i get the nuts off? Thanks alot! I hope to get this solved soon i'll be commuting this car 110 miles a day and i'm preparing it, heh.

Man, so you tried to tighten the bolts you put in the stud holes and they just spun?

That is really odd...

Do the studs thread back in?

I would just get some new studs man and put them back in.

Maybe these bolts you put in were just alittle to long and were bottoming out in the hole and not snugging up the headder?

The nut from the old studs should have fit the bolts no problem, so there's obviously a thread issue here. Also, the bolts may be too long, bottomed out, then started stripping the threads in the housing.

To remove the nut, screw two nuts onto the other end all the way until they bottom out. Then you can hold the uppper one (which will jam against the lower one), while turning the stuck one on the other end.

Naw man, i'm 100% sure that the bolts are not too long, they're 1.25 inches and the flange on the header is maybe a bit less than 1/2 an inch and the hole inside for the stud is about 1.5 inches long, so most definetly I am not touching the end. A friend recommended new studs, who would carry those?

Yeah thats why i immediately quit turning it after it "spun", see above post for the touching the end. I tried removing the nut with that method, man its stuck on, i guess i can try to put it in a vice and get a pnematic (sp?) wrench and undo it. Thanks any more opinions

Mazda carries new studs for the exhaust mani (I'm assuming you're talking about the ones coming out of the housings?). I've had to replace 2 in the past.

i hate to say it but if the bolts you put into the stud holes just spun then they probably pulled out at least the tops of the threads... put the new studs in and quit messing with the bolts before its too late.

do they make the helicoil thread inserts in metric sizes? i used to use those for american bolts once in a while. they were a real life saver!

Add some heat, and I'm sure you'll get it free.

Yeah, that sounds about right you prob destroyed the first few threads.

However, I would still try to get a stud in there. Any fitting gets its strength from just 3-4 threads.

Napa carries metric studs. Give them a call.

I've had the studs come out before, and simply screwed them back in, nut and all.
