pull motor, or motor/trans?
Hi, Gotta pull the engine on my 90 TII. Just getting some opinions here. Is it easier to take the engine out by itself and try to realign the tranny to the engine in the car.... Or take the engine AND tranny out so the tranny can be put back on the engine and then both put back in the car? Thanks!

on my friends car we pulled just the motor but it took so damn long to align the tranny when we put the new motor in. so i would recomend pulling both together it goes in so easy when they are bolted together so i see no reason not to pull them out together. imo. peace -mike

When I pulled my engine, I just brought the tranny with it. I think it made things tons easier because when your ready to go back in, you can bolt the tranny on with ease then drop it in and the only other bolts you have to worry about are the mounts for the tranny which are easy to get to.

the only thing i would recommend is putting the motor and tranny back together when they are out of the car, and putting it in the car as one piece.
the real bitch with the tranny is lining it up while bench pressing it under car.

Ok, if i was to pull the engine by itself are the bellhousing bolts a pain to get to?
I have a manual tranny. Thats why im wondering if I should pull the engine and trans.
I think it might be a real bitch to get the input shaft of the tranny through the clutch and lined up with the pilot bearing happily...

from what i hear it's easier to remove the motor without the tranny...however it is easier to install everything back together if you pulled both the motor and the tranny out...
For me i like for things to go back in place smoothly..so i would remove both and make my life easier when nearing the end of the project. =)

I would pull the motor by itself and never remove the tranny from the car. I have never had to much trouble getting the two back together. You do need to put something under the front of the tranny as it will drop a little without something supporting the front of it.
The B/H bolts are a cinch, you can get all but 2 of them from the top. I have pulled a rotary out of the engine bay in about an hour to have it sitting on the ground (Microtech, no emmissions etc) and I have pulled an LT1/T56 in about the same.

The only trap in reconnecting the engine to the tranny is the clutch disc alignment.
Just make sure the clutch disc is EXACTLY centered.
Clutch alignment tools are not very rigid, so I put a test rod in the pilot bearing & check it visually.
