puddle of coolant on the ground

i walk out to my car and notice a puddle of coolant on the ground under it, i crawled as soon as i jacked up the car it started to drip for about 15 seconds then stopped, im not sure where it was coming from, it built of around the oil pan and dripped, my coolant levels looked normal, i then took the car for a drive and it didnt drip at all, anyone know what it can be?

lower intake o-rings, most likely. most worthless design ever.

look under the UIM and see if coolant is puddled up between the rotor housings and the intake in those pockets on top of the engine.

I know exactly what the issue is. Same thing happened to my 88 t2. Pop off the upper intake manifold, carefully, and inspect ALL the coolant hoses. I don't know how stock your car is, but there are two 3/8 hoses that leak all the time which can be plugged off without damage to how the car runs (this is a conditional statement, depending on your setup, if anything is blocked off or removed, etc.)

One attaches to the rear housing on the passenger side, sticking straight up. I believe it goes to the hot start assist or whatever big valve is on the passenger side of the upper intake manifold. When I first bought my t2, this was leaking all over the passenger side of the engine, and pooling on top of the lower intake manifold (which continued to burn off coolant for like a month after I fixed the issue).

The other is another hose that comes straight up off the engine, but is way up front, like right behind/below the alternator. This one leaks a lot too.

And im also quite sure my lower intake doesn't have O-rings... I have just a paper/metal gasket on both faces of the LIM...

ALL turbo FCs have O-rings to seal the LIM to the block. it is the non turbo engines that have those passages blocked and no coolant running through the LIM.

Yep I was wrong. It's like the only part I haven't had to remove yet so I haven't seen it come out. I didn't look too hard at the gasket kit when I bought it, but it definitely has 2 O-rings.

That being said, yeah I suppose that would be a dumb design that I can see leaking. Makes me wonder if I got rid of my own coolant leak for good actually...

Didn't mean to doubt you RE my bad.

no worries, the hoses you mentioned for the thermowax are equally as possible the cause of a leak up there.

Coolant leaking after driving!

I'm having a similar issue with that as well. Whenever i drive during the day or just a little cooler at night, my FC will leak coolant after i drive it, right underneath the passenger side of the car. When it gets too hot it will leak a good amount of coolant and i would have to fill her up with some water just to get home. Any reason why my fc is getting too hot? My fans blow good. I don't see any sort of leaks when the car is in idle or anything like that, but will get hotter than normal and thats when the coolant will leak. I still need to make the time to check the hoses to see if there leaking anything but so far no signs of anything. Should i upgrade to an oil cooler? If anyone knows this issue in particular, please help a brotha out ty!

I would try and locate which side of the engine it is on.
Top, driver side, passenger side or front.

I had my LIM to engine orings go and I had to remove the whole intake system and replace them.. I used a small freeze plug on the front housing and oring still. Back housing runs coolant to turbo and got a new oring too.

I had puddles of coolant forming on the port side of engine on the top of the housings.

I have also had the Throttle body leak before and also the coolant lines coming out the top of the engine.
These hoses crack very easily after 25 years and/or 100K Miles.

This will be your best bet for finding the correct replacement hose if that is the issue
