Proper way to put car on jackstands

I checked the haynes manual, it only says how to jack up the front end of the car. What if I want to put the car on 4 jackstands? Do I put the front on jackstands, then jack up the rear one side at a time?

Sorry if this is a n00b question..

Jack the rear up from underneath the differential.

I have seen a Differential compromised by using it for jacking. Can cause it to leak...I would just go from one side to the other. Done that all my life with lots of cars with no problems.

I would assume lifting by the diff could be potentially bad if every manual says not to lift using the oil pan as a jack point. Personally, I think the car should be lifted by something absolutely sturdy like the chassis

Problem with this is that you're really causing the car to flex too much. If you have the front on jack stands and want to lift the rear, lifting from one side is definitely not a good idea. FSM is the way to go. In fact if on a surface that won't let the floor jack move, it will drag the opposite wheel as the car is raised.

When using a floor jack with the cradle, make certain the lip is around the diff and the edge won't tear the aluminum, and I know I'm a little paranoid, but I always cover the cradle with heavy cloth. Had a rubber insert at one time, but seems to have walked away.

I have never had a problem lifting any car by the differential.

Also if you are lowered sometimes it is hard to get a jack under the front, I usually drive the front of the car up onto a couple 2x4s which gives me plenty of room.

FWIW, I can't even get to the diff until I partially jack up one side. And yes, I do have a nice low-profile craftsman racing jack. I normally raise up the front on jack stands, then jack up one side at the chassis-crossmember mounting point until I can get much other jack underneath the diff.

I have to Use the aluminum scissor jack that the car came with, since the coilovers sank the car down too low. I use a Speed jack, and then place the car on Stands. Thanks to Icemark and that Happy Airhead Guy!(haha)for showing the proper way to Put the car up...who the Heck said to Leave it ON the Jack?..Fried Much?

I have heard of noobs lifting the car by the front crossmember and end up piercing the rad. I think its better to have 2 jacks and lifting under the suspension mount to the body. Then set your stands on something sturdy. And the rear i lift by the diff. Better yet get some ramps.

any of you people that think it is bad too jack up at the diff couldn't be more wrong..

you jack up at the diff.. and if removing the rear sub frame.. jack up untill you can get the axle stands under the chassis rails. then use a rubber block or a piece of wood with a slot cut down the length of it bigger enough too sit on the sills with out touching the seem welded part of the body of the vehicle
