Kind of on topic here, what is this mazda kit you spoke of in a PM? I need to do a rebuild on a GTU. Which by the way I didn't even think about trying it myself till I saw you're earlier posts.

I have read through the threads about what seals or the giant parts/individual kit. This kit you guys spoke of is just pieced togeather from the mazda list or what?

Definately don't give up. I already broke an injector clip just taking crap off the long block so I can get the motor out.

Lots of people rebuild engines themselves, just look at all the threads lately of people doing it

That being said, though, there are some very good positives to having a reputable builder do your engine (if you've never done it before) if you have the money. They know what to check for, they have parts on hand to replace anything questionable, they have a VERY good track record (if you go to a good one that is), and some even provide warranties like Kevin Landers. Doing it yourself as a first timer wont have some of those priviledges unfortunately, and that's the risk you take when you do it yourself. It's really not difficult, but just like many people have proved on this forum with all the "my rebuild wont start" or "what did I do wrong with my rebuild" type questions is that your first time can be diffiicult and you can make very simple mistakes. A seasoned builder 99.9% of the time wont.

You just have to weigh the options.

Take all that money you saved for the paint and buy what you need to fix it. looks way better as a skittle anyway, it has the sleeper appeal.

And don't forget you shouldn't have to do much scrubbing to get the carbon off things, etc. You probably won't even get dirty this time around.

Ah, so much love going on, but for a very good reason.

I don't know if you realize it or not, but your skittle has given alot of people more confidence about their cars. I know it has been a great motivation for me and has given me the confidence to rebuild a 13b and know I have a good chance of succeeding.

I wish i was in your area, about the only thing I can afford to donate is time, and I'd love to help out. I'm sure you'll get this figured out though, and although I don't know a ton about the whole rebuild situation, I do know I have heard some rather unpleasant things about those RA coolant seals and have a hunch that they're your main problem. I plan on using 100% Mazda OEM parts for my first rebuild.

Keep your spirits up, and get that baby running again!.

this is what happened with my motor as you can see in the pics i posted in the link previously, something that can be easily overlooked, the pitting isn't very noticable but inspection with a flashlight can turn up some astonishing problems. i wouldn't say this is the likely cause but it is something EVERYONE should look out for.
Well, if you reread my post, I mentioned that these are possible, but are extremely unlikely, and so did not list them as actual numbers. I rarely find pinholes on spark plug/exhaust sleeves that I pass for acceptable pitting level.

If dustin (or anyone else) would like to cover shipping here and back (usually $80-120 each way) and send me a new set of water seals, I;ll be glad to pull it apart and show everyone what went wrong and how to avoid it in the future. And then reassemble it and send it back out. Shouldnt take that long, all the cleaning has been done already.

Course, Im sorta behind with work right now, so it might take me a week or 2 to get to it for him.

what was the problem with the seals? i saw you put them in in a different way than i do, i prefer to do it the way that Dan Atkins' video shows by leaving the springs out until you get the rotor housing in place then you assemble the apex seals.

He's talking about the coolant seals, not apex.

This guy is 15 years old, and has been doing things to his FC that alot of us have been too afraid to do in our old age. I can't say what this means to others, but it has given me more courage (and motivation) to do my own rotary rebuild when it's time and the stuff I have had to do to my FC seem much less complicated.

The skittle must not die, because it's like our little first time rebuilder's mascot of sorts.

Thanks for the support everyone... it just amazes me how many people were following the skittle(thats her new name) and all the support is amazing and just gets me undepressed and stoaked to get working on it again so u can see the future post "the engine is out" "teardown with massive pics" "it waz the damm coolent seals" "she is in any running again Yippie" they will soon come.. engine will come out next week ... hopefully buy then i have done enough work around the neibhorhood to afford to buy the seals(i will not accept money or free seals) it just dont feel right to me... once again thanks for the support...it helps me love the skittle again....

Thanx

Dustin H
