If you'd like to PM me, we could work through this problem together.

feeling the same way as Dustin, i could never accept free parts/shipping, i might be coersed into accepting free parts if i were to pay for shipping. let him find the problem then we can see what all he needs to fix it up right and maybe force him to take some parts if he paid for shipping, might not make him feel so guilty about it.
When **** like this hits me personally, I'll usually just think about it for a day or two, then get back on it. I tend to never give up, but in the heat of the moment I'll whine and complain about it and even say to **** it all to hell. But in reality, a few days later, where will I be? back at the problem trying to see what happened.
If I were u felix, tear the engine completley apart and check out what the hell happened. If they are just the coolant seals, you could just pick up only those at mazda for less money, right?

KEEP AT IT!
I bought my 10AE when I was 17 with a dead motor. I stored it over the summer and put a motor in it the next winter. I suffered some major setbacks and learned a LOT (I had never really wrenched on a car before, and a TII rotary is just about the most complex engine assembly (it had working p/s and a/c and they still work now!). SOMEHOW we got it working with a LOT of work. 3 days later I had a ball joint seperate and smashed the car into a tree. I was really discouraged, I felt like my world had collapsed. I was SO upset. I got a ticket, got it towed home.... had a few false leads but got the car fixed. and over the whole summer I worked and worked on it and got it better on fuel (averaged 9mpg driving 600+ miles a week while working part time really put a strain on me!) and faster and faster... all was great... that october the transmission died stranding me 200KM from home... I was pretty discouraged but I worked through it, got another trans, put the car back on the road in the spring and got through last summer mostly problem free. Then on september 13 (3 days after my birthday) I blew it up being stupid. (17psi on stock fuel = teh bad!). Once again, pretty devastating, I have not had a lot of money to spend on things at any point and haven't been able to have parents help me at all. I found another motor near the end of october and put it in in ONE DAY... but it wasn't right right from the beginning.. the car felt "slow" and didn't have proper oil pressure... I drove it anyways.. (no other choice!) 1 week before christmas it blew up at like 1/3 throttle at 3500RPM. I had NO money (not even $200) to fix it, but I lucked out and found a winter car. I get my tax return in a few weeks and I'm putting a new motor in then. So that's the car's 4th motor and my 3rd try. Has it been shitty at times? Oh hell yes. Would I trade my car for anything? HELL NO. The only thing that I want more than my 1988 10AE is a 2005 RX8 with a turbocharger, and I know that that isn't going to happen anytime soon. Stick with it, all will be right in the end. Even if all isn't right right now, the sun is going to come up tomorrow no matter what you do and the sooner you realize that the happier you'll be. Maybe you should give yourself a day or two away from the project and then come back to it.

But I love her
felixwankel88 - I had the same problem, except mine developed slowly after my 3k break in period.. I rebuild it for less than $150, I think, as I was able to order just the seals I needed (coolant and combustion).. I agree that I don't like those teflon round seals, they were a bitch to put in. this build only has about 3000 on it, I hope it doesn't develop this cooling problem too.
Keep at it
Either way, Whether he wants to accept it or not, I'm in for $10.. being a college student sucks, but us rotary people gotta stick together where we can
Dude that sucks... Well I'm right in the middle of cleaning my engine parts... you know since you inspired me to do the rebuild work my self. Hopefully its something simple and cheap. You have the tools and the experience already for the rebuild you just need time.... So good luck for you and for everyone who just started their rebuild!!!

Dustin, Don't start that crap!! You know you can do it. You let me know if you need some coolant seals.
You, yourself can pull that engine it 2 hours. You could have the motor apart by tomorrow afternoon. You may not even need seals they may just not be seated properly.
Don't make me drive to BFE to get you motivated. Cause I just wind up giving you a nugy!!
And look at this thread!!! you have so much support!! You have three pages of help in as many hours!!

Well, he shot me a PM asking about the seals... looks like he's at least willing to rip apart the block. We'll keep this car alive yet!
This can only be three things:
1. Pinched coolant seal... just replace the seals, using mazda seals this time (since they fit in the grooves) and reassemble.
2. bad coolant seals... same as above.
3. Cracked coolant seal groove wall... replace iron and seals.
If he checked the rotor housings on the first assembly, they won't be warped, and exhaust port/spark plug pinholes are VERY uncommon.
So... what the heck... If you need any in spec parts, rotors, rotor housings, irons... just let me know and they're yours. If you slide me a smile I might even port them for you...
