progress of TII Swap

Taking the engine out of the TII

Different angle

TII Engine in the vert

I couldn't resist, even though it's not done yet I had to see what it was going to look like. Should I use the vert BBS wheels or stick with the TII wheels? The TII wheels with tire are 12 lbs. heavier than the BBSs. Also the brakes on the vert seem to be the same as the TII are they the same? I still have to connect the wirring harness, rear diff and exaust, but I'm definatley in the home strech.

'Vert wheels are infinitely more beautiful than the stock 87-88 TII rims. If you can, pick up a set of 89-91 TII rims. They're slick-looking, 16", AND are lighter than sin.

I never thought the the Vert wheels looked that great on the vert, but now that they are on the TII I think they look pretty sweet. I'll hang on to both sets for a while. On a different subject, any recomendations on a good inexpensive boost guage?

Negative, I will be using all TII parts for driveline. TII engine and trans were taken out and put into the vert as one unit. The diff, output shafts, and drivehsaft will be swaped from the TII shortly.

Everything is easy with the right tools The rear end was no exception. Use a gear puller to push out the output shafts from the hub, unbolting the lower bolt on the shock absorber helps as well. For the pumpkin, you need to undo the subframe support bolt( arrows) which will allow the subframe to drop just enough th get the pumpkin out. The biggest pain in the a$$ was removing the delicate wiring harness, and I had to do it on both cars.

Whoa this is awesome. I haven't been on here for very long but I havent seen anyone do this. Please put some vert wheels on there! And let us know how it runs when your done. I would like to know how a dropped in engine would compare to the japanese imports. Thanks

I'm pretty sure some others on the forum have done it. I went this route instead of j-spec because the price was extremly right and it had everything I needed for the swap. I'll report on how it drives and handles once it's done. I think I'll have to invite Sonic down for a test drive.

Sonic what's your take on the wheels? I'm suprised everyone is sticking with the vert wheels, everyone I ask who has seen it in person (except my wife) likes the TII wheels

Also, how would the vert wheels differ in performance over the TII wheels?

As for a boost gauge, go look at some VDO's on summit, they are like $30 and they are very nice IMO.
