Hot Starting-floods

I have a 90 GXL Automatic. Car starts fine when cold but when I try to start it after it warms up, its flooded! I've tried adjusting the idle and air metering valve on the top of the intake manifold but I'm not sure how its supposed to be set. I downloaded the manufac fuel/emission manual and sounds like I might have a sensor problem. Anyone know where I can borrow a self diagnostic tester from???

Quick workaround until you find the problem - put the gas pedal on the floor for a second or three while cranking. This cuts off the fuel and defloods the engine.

It sounds like you may have a leaky injector or two.

Do some searches on flooding. Seems more and more people are experiencing this problem. Possible worn engine, leaking injectors, etc. There are threads also to band aide the problem . Fuel cut toggle switch.

I had this problem in my old 88 GXL, and it turned out to be low "warm" compression. The car started perfectly when cold and hot, but warm? Fuhgeddaboutit.

Thanks everyone. I think I got a leaky injector. Because when I start it cold, it runs really rough (rich) for a while, then the idle increases, sounds much better and coughs out some grey-white smoke...
