problems with pilot bearing
Hey guys i had to replace my throw out bearing and i went ahead and got a full clutch kit to replace the old one. I got a exedy clutch kit and came with everything. The problem im having is getting the pilot bearing. i noticed there is a needle bearing there for the input shaft and the pilot bearing i have that came with the kit will not fit. Is there a possiblity that that the pilot bearing was machined pressed on the ecc shaft? need some help here guys and will be appreciated

They can apparently be a real bitch to yank out. Here is a tool that I recently used to remove mine. I had to pop the 3 pound slide hammer about 7-8 times. Those bearings are really in there tight. I borrowed a tool from a member on the board to install the pilot bearing and the seal. It looks just like the one from Mazdatrix. You can also use a socket that is the same size as the pilot bearing to drive it in. Just make sure the socket is pushing on the outer race, not the inner race.

I have heard some people borrow the one at autozone with varying degrees of success. Some people end up yanking the needle bearing inner race and needles, leaving the outer race stuck. Sounds like this is what you may have done. You may be stuck using a dremel or die grinder to carefully cut out the outer race.
Good Luck!

thanks man that helps. That bearing puller from Autobone ended up pulling my needle bearings out leaving the outer race of the bearing intact. might have to go to harbor freight and get that puller like the one you linked the thread to. i didnt want to have to resort to having to cut that race out damaging the bearing seat.

I have used a Dremel for the pilot bearing,as all teh damn pullers I rent are no Effin good(old guy Bitchin!)!..I carefully cut into the outer part of the bearing, and then I am able to reach in with needle nose and grab the Needle bearings.
The next part is a little tricky: making a Nick on the inner part of the Old race that is inside the Eccentric shaft. You Score the race(back to front) enough so that it weakens the metal(get it real thin) and then get a pair of needle nose, give it a Twist, and Voila!..it turns in on itself,Or breaks and pops out.

i ordered a clutch kit before and the pilot bearing i receive looked like a skatebpoard wheel bearing , i dont know where the hell it came from, ive had to use a dremel to get out my pilot bearing as well its time consuming but not that hard

I went to replace my clutch and I found that the idiot before me, previous owner, couldn't remove the old pilot bearing and installed the new one right behind the old one. Yah fun for me taking out two of those monsters when one broke apart inside, the whole reason I had to remove the trans in the first place.

OP, don't put the trans in by using the bolts to pull it along or you will be doing the work twice.

well everything is good now got that outer race out cleaned everything up slapped in the new pilot bearing, clutch and pressure plate. and put back the tranny in place.
everything feels good took it for a test drive around the block. Clutch pedal feels like butter. Thanks for all the suggestions guy i really appreciate it. Never ran into a snag like that b4. and oh yeah that other bearing that came with the clutch kit that looks like a skate board bearing is for the b2600 pick-up truck
