Problems with Fuel Cut Switch
I was having the 'car not starting when warm' problem about a year ago, and since I had some vague idea about the problem relating to the engine flooding, the mechanic I went to, connected the fuel pump power wire directly to the battery, and then put in a switch in between. I've had it for about 10 months and I've had no problems using it to start the car. Now because of the setup, I obviously have to keep the fuel switch on when I turn off the ignition, otherwise the battery will get drained (fuel pump wired direct to battery).
Today I tried to start the car, and it would not start, even when I used the fuel cut switch.
I left the car for about 3 hours, it started up fine after that, so it was obviously following the usual 'car not starting when warm' symptoms. When I got home, I flicked the fuel cut switch on, I could hear the fuel pump turning off, but the car kept idling!
Here are my questions...
If I can actually hear the fuel pump shutting off when I turn the fuel cut switch on, is it still possible for fuel to flow to the engine when trying to start it, or when it's idling?
If it isn't, what in god's name is happening?
PLEASE HELP!!

by "turn the fuel cut switch on", you really mean "turn the fuel cut switch *OFF*", right?
The engine will continue to idle for a few seconds with the pump shut off.. It's just got a little pressure still in the lines that it uses.

Yes it's possible because the system is still held under some pressure even with the pump off. But it won't last long.
Your mechanic obiously didn't know about how the FC fuel pump is wired, because he's bypassed the fuel pump dropping resistor with his little mod. A better place for the fuel pump switch is the fuel pump relay under the dash by the steering column. It's got a yellow plug, the switch goes in the middle wire, which is black. Your mechanics mod is dodgy at best,

What are the 2 wires either side of the fuel pump wire (under the dash)?
I had a 'dodgy' fuel cut switch put in, and it looks like they hacked these 2 wires. I actually installed a switch using the middle wire (black and white), and it works great (a minor miracle for me )!
So, what are the 2 wires either side?
Thanks in advance?
