Exclamation Problem with starting

Hey everyone..

I own a 1987 GXL with 76k Miles on original everything... problem is that it ran GREAT yesterday, but today it just wont start up. i checked all sections of google and you guys are my last hope or i will have to take it into a shop... heres the problem:

Once i turn the key i hear the familiar starter winding, but seems its not catching on or something... i can smell the gas so i know it isnt the injectors (unless its flooding) but other than that i have no clue on how to fix this issue... Ive owned only cylinder engines before so the rotary is a new thing to me... Help me out please if you know how i can start my baby up...

It sounds like your flooded. Pull the EGI fuse and crank for about 20 sec. Put the fuse back in. Start it up with your gas pedal all the way down. See if that will work for ya and dont worry about the excess smoke coming out of exhaust as it will clear up.

I just tried that, it did seem like started to catch on a lil bit. I will try to do it for longer time, just to clear up... the EGI fuse i bulled was the EGI Inj, that the right one right? (lol, sorry for these kinda stupid questions, but yet agian i havent really messed with anythin like RX 7 in my life... only fords..)

Okay now take out the lower spark plugs and clean them up good. Put about tablespoon of ATF into the plug holes. Start the unflood procedure again and yes you did pull the right fuse out (inner most fuse of the engine bay).

No prob, remember now if you just need to move your car out of the way or re-park it, let the engine warm up first before turning it off. If you dont it will flood again and welcome to the world of rotaries!!!
