Problem with my car need some help!

I Have an 88' rx7 convertible, When i start it engine it will idle relativly ok, but if i try to put it in gear it will stall and it wont start for about 20 minutes. when i idle the car i am able to rev the engine with no problems, it just wont drive. i had a dealership look at it and they told me my apex seals were blown. does this sound right? also my battery wont stay charged. if anyone has any ideas that would be great!

No, it doesn't sound like the apex seals are blown. In my experience, when you lose an apex seal, the engine shakes pretty violently, most noticeable at idle.

Is it an automatic? I think that would be a problem with the BAC valve. It varies bypass air to keep a steady idle under differing loads.

As far as not wanting to restart: Flooding is a common problem with the rotary. Next time you're in that position hold the throttle wide open from the get-go and I bet it'll fire off.

Cheers

To see if is the BAC problem just turn some stuff on that draws powers at idle and park. If the engine shuts off than the BAC is to blame. If not than we would have to look somewhere else. The BAC is the idle air controls that controls the idle.

His is a S4, that won't help. You have to pull 2 fuses, then hold the throttle open..... Do a search for "unflooding procedures" or read the faq for that problem.

Also, don't ever take your car to the dealership, they don't know what they're doing most of the time. Why did they say the apex seals were gone? Did the do a compression test?

Is the car manual or auto? If it's manual there might be a problem keeping the clutch from disengaging properly. Does it lurch foward when you put it in gear?

When I recommend WOT upon start it has absolutely nothing to do with the switch on S5s. By holding the throttle plates wide open you are introducing extra air to accommodate the extra fuel. Simply physical.

And it does work.

My Car is a manual. wheni took it to the dealer they kept the car for about 2 weeks and kept telling me they were looking over the electrical system, then in the end they just told me it was my apex seals.

Sure, that's what everybody says when they can't figure out what's wrong. "Yo Enis, check out this weird engine. Won't run right? It must be blown"

Duhhhh, can I pet the rabbit George?

Get it compression tested if you want to know for sure.

I hope they didnt charge you, cause thats gay, Ill tell you what i did cause i had the same problems, I have an 88gxl, Automatic #1 if the battery connection is bad, and you put the car in drive the alt kicks down cause alot of them wont charge at the full rate at low idle the car will just die because of no power, i had to clean all connections and charge the battery over night with my 10 amp charger, after that i had no problems and the charging stayed up past the 14volts insted of the bearly 12 volts that it was allways at! also it can do that if your idle is set wrong, set it at like 1k for nutral and when you put it in gear it should kick down and then back up, If not then the top screw i would try to adjust out a hair, Now if it didnt start after it died i dont know about that! Maybe it got flooded or a bad battery connection, but im just letting you know what I did to fix the problem! hope it helps

Does this guy living in a high altitude make any difference? Just a thought. Also did you drive it any where low? Like around the beach?
