Problem with my 89 gtu.

Ok i was driving to the store and all of a sudden i hear the car choke like it had no fuel so i pulled into a driveway and tried to start the car it just cranked and wouldn,t start so i had it towed home.then when i got it home i took out the plugs and i noticed only 2 were wet the others were dry so the next morning i started it up and it ran and idled like **** and when i took my foot off the gas it died.and a thin smoke came into the interior through the fire wall and when i opened the hood there was the clear smoke behind the motor coming from the manifold so i had the car taken to the dealer and they did a decarbination cleaning to swell up the apex seals but it didn,t work so i got the car back and they said both rotors are dead and an engine replacement is needed ok i understand that part but to my knowledge if both rotors are dead would the car start, cause it still starts after like 4-5 times and also stepping on the gas and the rpms go up come back down and sit by 900 rpms for a few seconds then it dies and its a bitch to start it back up unless its cold.is this a result of worn apex seals or a sensor like the 02 or clogged injectors right now iam saving money to get a new s5 n/a motor but if anybody on here can tell me wut it is iam all ears e-mail me or wutever u gotta do 1.

Did they tell you the compression numbers?

Get a compression check... you could have blown your motor, and I hope the dealer wouldn't lie to you and say you need a new engine.

Also i did the ghetto compression test and on the rear rotor when i cranked it gasoline fumes shot out the bottom plug hole but iam assuming thats because i had the egi fuse in.and it made a whining noise like a supercharger.if its possible if anybody thats in the williamsburg v.a. area that knows about rotaries can e-mail me also thanks 1.

Don't replace the motor if they did not do a compression check, and the dealer you took it too is an idiot.

They said they did a compression check and both rotors are dead but they didn,t give me any numbers they just said the motor has to be replaced and of course they took it apon thereselves to write the price down which was 5,283 dollars but they gave no numbers.wuts the lowest number there can be because the car still starts it just runs like crap and if i drive it,it wont go over two grand(note)this is with the peddle to the floor.

im in northern Va and the same thing just happen to me.. driving 4 blocks down from my house. I have my car shake like hell when im on the gas and then when i let off she die. What i recommend is find a s5 n/a motor and swap your self. I could problaly check around see if my friend would do the swap for some side job money and could problaly find your a new motor.. but 5300 is way too much .. dealership charge straight up the a**

Ok update on my 89 gtu i,ve done the ghetto compression and the front rotor is fine, but the leading hole in the rear rotor spews out a gasoline fume and it makes a whining noise in the rear rotor leading hole and my friends 91 made this sound when his entire motor had no compression but only the bottom hole on the rear rotor is doing that so it indicates that a seal is not holding compression.

No, the o2 sensor won't do jack about starting and idling (unless your tranny switches are screwed, then it'll try to adjust your fuel mixture to save gas (this is quite funny to watch))
