Problem with engine installation/no clutch?

Any help here would be appreciated. I just swapped engines and after getting the new one in I started it and it runs fine but it seems as if I have no clutch. I can shift into any gear without even pressing in the clutch and get no movemant from the car. Did I install something wrong. The tranny was left in the car. Aligning it sucked but it seemed to be meshed back in and all bolts lined up and tightened correctly. Any ideas? All I can think now is to pull the tranny out since I just installed the engine. Anything I should look for? Please help if possible.
Thanks

oh hell that sucks hard, i would suggest doing what you said, just pulling the tranny and checkin' out all the clutch material, i really dont have any idea as to why it would just almost in a way "not be there". Good luck man and let us know whats up

are you sure the hydraulics are working? Check the slave and make sure that it is lined up with the clutch fork.
Or are you saying that you can shift into gear with the engine running?

Yes, I can shift into gear with the engine running without pushing in the clutch, but no motion when I do shift into gear.
This should be fun to figure out. Thanks for the replies..

Anyone one else ever experience this?

Stuck......

IF the clutch were installed backwards, I would think one of 2 things would happen:

1) he'd hear a lot of noise from the thing as he tried to push th pedal in and out, fromt eh spring loaded clutch side hitting the flywheel when pressure was released.
2)even though it's installed backwards, the PP is still holding it solid against the flywheel and itself, and if the tranny input shaft is splined into the clutch, then it would still be spinnign the tranny, making what he's describing not relaly possible.

The only time Ive had such a thing happen to me is when a clutch is OUT of a car...when it wears to the point it no longer engages at all. I could be wrong about the backwards thing, it is very possible, but Id think you'd hear a lot lf noise and clanking when you push the pedal if that were the case.

But take it apart, you have no choice.

I hate to tell you this, but I think you are going to have to go back in the bell housing and figure this out. Obviously, the clutch is not engaging whatsoever. That's why you can shift gears, the clutch is not engaged, no matter what you do with the pedal. You must have done something wrong on the installation. Are you sure that you have the flywheel nut tight? It requires around 350ft/lbs of torque.

when you push the clutch pedal in, is there any resistance, or is it really easy to push it in?? if there is resistance, then i don't know what to tell you that means that something is preventing the clutch from engaging, and you probably have to take the engine and trans apart to see whats goin on. maybe somebody left the clutch disk out when they put it together. if there is no resistence, the pressure plate could be broken or missing.....did you replace the clutch on the new engine?
good luck to you!
