primary injectors

im putting my motor back together and i was wondering if the primary injectors should be loose after tightening the bolts? are the plastic diffusers go on the end of the injector or do i just put them in the hole? Thanks for any advice

Diffusers drop into the hole.

The fuel injectors should be snug. But you can rotate them by hand. It's hard to define snug.

There should be a rubber grommet on the end of the injectors to make a air tight seal. If the grommets are rock hard.........buy some new ones 'cause you'll most likely get a slight air leak around the injectors if they're rock hard.

the primary diffuser is a two pieces design
the bottom section has the angled diffuser plates and above that sits a plastic spacer section with rubber o ring sides
above that is the rubber base grommet and the injector

remember to lube the O ring on the injector top and fit the rail with the insulating spacer below it
the injectors will be firm /snug but will be able to rotate though not lift easily up and down

It should look like the middle injector in the picture. There's no doubt about this at all.

What year/series car is this?

Gets a grommet on the bottom and a grommet on the top. See the jpg I attached out of MAZDATRIX's site in my other post. I think the upper one might be called a dust seal in one place and a grommet in another place.....both talking about the same item.

Your car gets the first two items listed on that jpg I had attached. In Their diaglogue they call it a dust seal but on the listing of the part numbers they call it a grommet. They NEED to get their heads out and call a given part just one name NOT two different names when talking about the same part.

This is out of the FSM for series four. They like to use different names also.

Grommet at the housing is thicker than the upper dust seal/grommet/thigamajig/whatchamacallit.
