GPS unit, alarm with tilt sensor for tow trucks, something with a big caliber to get your car back and make a mess.

Yeah, I've been wondering what everybody does to protect their 7's.... Maybe I should look into an alarm system, even though that probably wouldn't prevent anything...

Does anybody know how much a kill switch would be and is it hard to install? That idea seems to make the most sense to me.

 

a kill switch could be as easy as tapping the wire to your starter solenoid and putting a switch in... im sure there are plenty of other ways, this is just one.

 

Or just have a good alarm system like mine. Compustar 2w900fmas canadian model. +3000 feet of range for added security. I paid $300 for the alarm, $300 for installation call me crazy but they worked on it from 9am-6pm so I got a deal, and $75 a door for power. The alarm has keyless entry, turbo timer, paging feature (when the alarm goes off the pager goes off and tells you what there doing), and auto start. Compustar is the only brand out there that has the capability of auto starting on a standard safely. As proof, if you have the car in gear you can't auto start it because the start feature recognizes that and is disabled. If the car is broken into and attempted to drive off with it wont work, as soon as you press the brake pedal with no key the engine shuts off and the alarm arms itself. Along with a starter kill and hood pin thats all you need .... After the install I was looking for all the alarm features can't even find it. The guy told me he put the alarms cpu to the left of the steering wheel up and behind up in the dash that you can't see.

 

just leave a bunch of gun pictures in your car along with a handfull of bullets in the glove box and a nra membership sticker, you should be fine.

a friend of mine had a broken switch and you had to reach over with your hand to press it. .but i dunno if hotwiring bypasses it?

Thieves can be very skilled. Someone on a local 4x4 board got his built rear axle (see: thousands of dollars invested) stolen from underneath his Jeep. They sat the wheel wells of the Jeep on the Tires. He was only in the store for 10 minutes.

 

yea that one would suck... THe only thing i see is that 1. you have to hide it somewhere it wont be found, and if it cant be found its proboblly in a very difficult place to put it, which means if its difficult either it becomes a paint in the *** every 7 days you have to charge the battery OR you hard wire it in which case theres a wire the thieves can follow to find the gps. If you have a garage its a good idea, but if your out in the open you give your hiding spot away every 7 days.....My dad has a "probe" thing on his harley, when the bike, if stolen gets a certain distance away, it dies. SO if he walks away from his harly it cant be started without the probe. i wonder if there is something like that out on the car market.

 

I thought Lo Jack was awesome until I read up on it.

The only way to detect the signal being produced is if the Police department has the hardware to detect it, and then the police car that has the hardware has to be near the car.

GPS Snitch is a way better product, imho.

 

I've been thinking about wiring a switch into the EGI fuse circuit and mounting it in some hidden, out of sight place. So when I'm up in the hood parking, I can just flip it off and the car wont start if someone gets into it and hotwires it. And then again, cheap autozone alarms do work. Mine's some 'bulldog' brand and it's always went off when I tried arming it.

 

There are a lot of wires that are important to run your car that you can run relays and switches for. I have seen people make "keys" for there wires that they have on their keychain, and they have to plug in a 16 pin connector to start the car, which means they had 8 wires disconnected until they plugged it in. I am not sure of the benefit of this setup, or if there are easy ways around it, but it was pretty creative.

Seriously, though, I think mine works pretty well. My kill switch is on a pop-out panel. When I park it in a questionable area, I just take out the kill switch and put in a duplicate panel with no hole in it. No one knows there was even a kill switch there.

My dad's Austin-Healey had a nice one, too. There was a battery disconnect switch in the trunk, so you just turned that off and locked the trunk.

Another great one that is bascially 100% full proof: Get a standalone EMS and load a dummy map with no fuel. When you get back, just load up the proper map and you're on your way.

 

it seems like theses are cars are regularly being stolen now a day (probably due to popularity). its really starting to look like the good old honda days, good think i sold mines before any happened (miss it like crazy). if i were you guys i would do like me. invest in a good alarm and a 1911A1 .45. DOUBLE STACK
