Its pretty high in chances that anyone stealing an RX-7 is going to be a fellow RX-7 owner wanting the parts. Don;t kid yourselfthat every RX owner is a total saint. A kill switch wired into anywhere on the car, especially the main fusebox, will take an RX-7-knowledgable theif all of 30 seconds to find and bypass. The stock main fusebox would be the first place to look, and a simple jumper wire to bypass it.

I always thought wiring in an ignition switch somewhere else, like under the seat, would be a good idea.

The problem with all these switches is that they're easy to detect. Just poke your head in the engine bay and under the dash. Its dead simple to spot non-stock wiring, and even simpler to bypass it.

GPS is by far the best, if installed properly.

I also really like the shatter-proof window film. That **** is impressive!

I have this jumper connector that I found at the junkyard. i wired it in and wrapped it into the harness with electrical tape. Needs the jumper in to run, take it out, looks like a factory unused plug.

if my car is stolen, i know its one of you guys here. =P

thats just means splicing into the wiring on the back side of the fuse box and putting a dummy fuse in so its undecteted.
its just a matter of how much work you want to do and how persistant your thief is

hmmm....ok so engine critical...whats that mean, egi, main, ??? I totally understand anyone willing and wanting to steal something is totally capable. BUt the whole function of all anti theft, is to DETER someone from doing it. The more you have, the more complex it is. The harder it becomes for someone to do so...Now on a quick release steering wheel, nrg sells a locking hub adapter dealio. I always thought that was a good idea, but would one of those easily be broken or picked??? anyone have one ?

ummm i think the one i used was the one marked engine...but its ben along time.
easiest way to find out though is to pull an engine fuse and try and start your car up
that or pull up an enectrical print and trace out where the fuses go

Pretty much all basic lock cylinders can be picked. Some of them in less than a second by anyone with some experience.

yea all you deter or slow down the theif. there is nothing you can do to completely stop them. unless your crazy and take some measures to could make it unstealable but would probally take u an hour to make it moveable again.

could still tow with a boot, unless you had two, then its still possible, a regular tow truck that picks up the two wheels would just pick up the side with the boot, if you have one on front and back they have wheel dollies that they put under the other set of tires
saw a driver do it here at my apartment, they hooked up from the rear and it was FWD so they put the dolly under the drive tires and away they went...

i say best bet is a GPS unit, and an alarm with a pager, they work pretty far away, there are some that will noify you up to a mile away, mine tells if a door opens, trunk opens, shock sensor, or if the ignition wire gets power, there is an optional sensor for glass break too, probably a tilt sensor available somewhere.. not to worried about that though

fact is you are not going to stop a theif that wants your car no matter how many security measures you put in, if you are fussing with the fuse box or poping your hood everytime you start your car then they will probably notice when they scope out your habbits...
a friend of mine had a push button kill switch hooked up to the ignition switch, he had it to where it looked like he was just sitting with his elbow on the window and you couldn't notice that he was hitting the button with his thumb above the a-pillar, and he drove like that most of the time too (arm on window) i rode with him dozens of times and didn't know he had the switch untill he asked me to move it for him...
another good one was on an 81 monte carlo my other friend bought, he couldn't get it to start after he bought it for days, finally found out it had a kill switch, it was one of those old high beam flashers that older cars mounted on the floorboard, didn't even realize there was also one on the colum and it looked totaly stock

Again... kill switch, busted door locks, quick release steering wheel, and of course NO A/C!

It makes me laugh when people post things about their security system on the internet where the post their location and usually pictures of their car...

my jacobs box came with an anti - theft feature that would initially let the car drive normally, then make it start stuttering then stall, and not come back on. thief would think car just broke down. I've lived on military bases and while I was in college, with a cop with a 15' cynder block wall, that was concrete/rebar reinforced. It had razor wire on top. Ugly as hell, but I knew it would take some serious work to break in.
