Powersteering dies? leaking charcoal canister?

Hi! So all of last summer I drove my seven, and had a wierd steering issue the whole time, the steering wanders, so you can't drive in a straight line.. nomatter how stead you hold the wheel lol, but I just got used to compensating for it and drove it, this year I am detirmined to get it fixed, but that isnt what this post is about (might be related though)

So I got my 7 on the road yesterday, and I drove a few blocks, all of a sudden my power steering stopped working, and my car was beeping at me, seemed like a consistant beep, I turned the car off, then on again and my power steering was fine, I drove home, and then on the last turn to my house, same thing power steering stopped, and I got the beeping (Im glad I drove a 89 civic beater with NO power steering all winter lawl), so anywho I drove the car home and turned it off.

Also my speedometer wasn't working, so when I got home I took my gauge cluster off and discovered that my speedo cable fell out so I got that fixed easily.

So is there anyone who knows why power steering would just (what apears to be) randomly die while driving? Thanks for any insight!

Also, there is a hose coming from the BOTTOM of my charcoal canister, that appears to be dripping (fuel?), I parked my car for 2 hours, then moved it and had a nice puddle of dirty yellow liquid. I read some forums that the bottom hose is some kind of ventilation or something, but it shouldn't be dripping liquid-fuel should it?

That is a vent for the charcoal canister.

As for your power steering, it sounds like you have an S4, my car does that too. I'm too lazy to fix it though lol.

well i know in my car the speedo cable being out left the power steering on all the time. It is supposed to shut down at 45mph i think. At least mine does. When it was always on i almost crashed like 20 times.

its speed variable and rpm sensitive

Idk for s4/s5 and I think certain models lack the dynamic power steering and it may just turn off, no idea on that.

Mines rpm sensiitive, its nice I wouldn't get rid of the ps

did you remove the steering wheel to get to the cluster (I never have removed it) but im guessing so, theres teeth inside there if the wheel is not on properly it'll beep I read before, but no idea if it'd just shut off or not

nope, I didn't remove the steering wheel, I got the speedo cable back in, and havent had the power steering fail now since, but I still got the "loose" steering, or "wander" going on.. really anoying and unsafe, I have to drive under 50KM/h to keep the vehicle under control.

is the steering really sensitive? It may be the Power steering not turning off like it should. Made mine feel loose and really wandering
